Those Kodak (and Fujifilm) disposable cameras were EVERYTHING!😭 I remember that clicking sound when you wound the camera before you took a picture-- and that feeling of sadness when the clicker kept on rolling and rolling because you were all out of film. I remember in the mid-90s when I went to summer camp for 2 weeks and I used up two cameras taking pictures. I remember begging my mother for money to take my cameras to Walgreens to get the film developed. I remember that feeling of joy opening the photo envelope after you got your pictures developed...only to realize that you have more than a few pictures with a pinkish blur taking up 50-75% of the pictures and blocking the subjects of said pictures.... a blur which happens to be your finger because your finger was blocking the built in flash when you took the pictures. 🤦♀️😂

Uh, Kodak is still functioning guys. Yes, they no longer make cameras (technically, they still sell disposable/One-time-use cameras), however they're producing film for both general photography and cinematography. Because of their bankruptcy filings in 2011 (I think), they were split into two different companies: Kodak Alaris - which was the consumer and professional film market along with their photo chemical lineup and Eastman Kodak - which handled the cinema films for both big and small budget films. True, they no longer operate as they once did so, indeed the Kodak of the past is no more. However its still here, still breathing, and very much alive.

Compaq getting bought out by HP was like Harvard being bought out by the University of Phoenix - the best in the business being bought out by hack competition that still doesn't measure up. The real pity of Pan-Am going belly-up was that they had plans to advance into space travel before Richard Branson had sold his first record album (Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield, for the trivia obsessed.) In a certain sense, I suppose they are an object lesson of inflexibility of a business model.

I think this was a pretty good list, though I might have chosen something different for the number one spot, because so many major airlines have gone out of business, mojo should probably make a specific video for them. Also, the narrator said in the beginning that the brands on this list were all associated with specific products and I'm not sure if Pan Am is associated with an actual product. One might say that they're associated with airplanes, but I think that credit goes more to manufacturing companies like Boeing, Lockheed-Martin, etc., rather than to airlines.

Reebok would have been on this list a few years ago due to their owners at the time Adidas thinking about discontinuing the brand because they could not find a buyer for it. However as of August of last year Reebok is now owned by Authentic Brands Group which also owns brands such as Sports Illustrated, Eddie Bauer, Nautica & Barneys to name a few.

Kodak still exists, it’s not the original company. They didn’t put Agfa nor Circuit City on this list. Agfa no longer exist, at least Kodak and Fujifilm are still in the photography business in a much smaller scale.
@samoyed819663 жыл бұрын
Actually, Circuit City was a name for an electronics store. If you heard what the announcer said at the beginning of this video. Stores like Blockbuster and Radio Shack deserved their own list. But there are other products that've been discontinued over the years like Halo Shampoo, Lustre Creme Shampoo, Palmolive Rapid-Shave, and Glo-Coat Floor Wax.

@@samoyed81966 I wish they put defunct brands, like Agfa or Lever 2000 and Wisk, those household brands used to be popular in the 1980s.

Side note on Compaq: while the company itself no longer exists, there are several licensed brands using the Compaq logo in different parts of the world. Grupo Newsan built laptops in Argentina from 2016 to 2018 with the Compaq brand attached to it. Positivó Tecnología re-licensed the brand name for usage in Brazil, also to manufacture laptops and desktops. Meanwhile in India, they make Smart TV (licensing deal by Ossify) and apparently, in the US there’s a licensing deal with an unspecified partner to distribute and sell Compaq-branded tablets.

I remember a 60 Minutes interview in the 1980s with the 20 somethings who worked at Compaq. They essentially said that anyone who had not earned $1 million in their 20s was "a loser". How the mighty have fallen.

Here are other brands that were discontinued that you should've include on the list of brands that don't exist anymore. Like Plymouth Cars, Lux Beauty Soap, Gleem Toothpaste, and Toni Home Permanent just to name a few.

Compaq is still around and they are making computers and 2 n 1s under that name as a subsidiary of HP. So you need to do your list over. U can get a Compaq 2n 1 at QVC. Just recently if not sold out already.

Compaq will not be missed. I bought a Presario for my wife in 1996, and it was such a pain that I was regularly fixing it, and replaced it less than two years later. Bugle Boy: well, fashion is fickle. This should be no surprise. I remember Kodak being the first company I saw with a digital camera. If they had stuck with that, they might still be around.
