Sadly, fantasy movies (as well as Action and Sciencefiction and such) are not regulars for the Academy. There are several movies that got nominated for some of the big awards, but they still are the exception to the rule. Especially in the last years there have been more and more attempts at getting genre movies some big nominations, i think were getting there honestly, although very slowly

Colonel Brandon is still, by far, my favorite Jane Austen suitor. Rickman's portrayal of a man slowly realizing that happiness could actually be his...and then the final wedding scene where the usually dour and reserved man is joyfully throwing money to children...makes me cry every time.

The greatest Slytherin that ever lived😍So sad that he died😭The best role he ever played was Severus Snape in Harry Potter, i think. And in Robin Hood he also played perfect😭😍😍😍💖He was one of the best actors😍😭R.I.P.💕#teamalanrickman #teamsnape

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is one of my all time favorite movies, and frankly, in my opinion, is the best version of Robin Hood, hands down.

Rickman saved that picture. Errol Flynn's The Adventures of Robin Hood is my choice for best Robin Hood movie of all time.

He totally stole the show on that movie. Kevin Costner couldn't even work up an English accent. Rickman won an award for playing the villain in that one....and he was funny then.

Alan RIckman was truly one of the greats. I just LOVE him as the "Sheriff of Nottingham", but he will always be Colonel Brandon to me; kind of like John Candy will always be "Uncle Buck" and Audrey Hepburn will always be "Holly Golightly". Sometimes a well written part and a gifted actor create something brilliant.

Would've liked to have seen Rickman's performance in "Bottle Shock" somewhere on this list. Still, it goes to show just how many memorable performances this man gave throughout his storied career. May he rest in peace, and be perpetually remembered for his amazing acting ability forever.

WHAT!!! no "Quigley Down Under"?! AWE MAN! not only is it an awesome cowboy movie with Tom Selleck in its own right, but Alan Rickman was spectacularly despicable as villainous ranch owner Elliot Marston. not only is he equally as evil as Hans and the sheriff of Nottingham, but just oozes that love to hate wicked charm characteristic that only he can provide!

Love that character by him, too -- so much so that I did a fanfic of HP where I have him capable of a potion that transforms him temporarily into a younger version of him with little knowledge of his past. I named the alternate ego "Christopher" because it was Brandon's first name.

Same I was born on his birthday so i felt a connection. I started writing a fan letter to him but I put it off for too long, expecting he would have lived longer. I will never forgive myself for that. I wanted to meet him so bad, he seemed like such an amazing guy. When I found out he died, I was in school. I wanted to bawl my eyes out, but then I probably would have been sent to the counselors office. If I started to cry I wouldn't have been able to stop. The weekend after he died I watched Truly Madly Deeply and I cried throughout the whole movie. He will always have a special place in my heart.
