The Wayne Gretzky episode was funny and endearing, because everyone involved leaned into the fact that he wasn’t a performer, especially Gretzky himself. In almost every sketch he good-naturedly played himself.

Exactly! Dan Aykroyd has openly shared his experiences with Asperger’s, and it’s amazing to see someone as iconic as him use his platform to bring awareness to it. Both he and Elon Musk highlight how neurodiversity exists in every walk of life, even in the spotlight. Did you even watch the video? The sketch quality was rarely the issue. It was the persons acting ability and/or ego. Giving Elon, Paris Hilton, or Steven Seagal banger sketches would not have changed a single thing.

To be fair, many of these selections were athletes, musicians and other non-acting celebrities, and too many were deemed bad only in retrospect because of scandal, or controversial skits that don't translate well through a modern lens. But yeah, most of these were bad.

I think this list proves that political figures and sports stars should basically steer clear of SNL. While there have been a couple of instances where a politician or sports figure did a good job, for the most part, they are stepping way out of their wheel house. No more, Lorne, no more!

I'm not sure if on earlier videos whether I made this comment because this channel has done this topic in earlier uploads, but IMO Charles Grodin should have been Number One for this list (at least as sketch player here, aside from monologuing). Anyone who brings sketches to a screeching halt and has the other performers break character to complain in real time about him screwing up the skit cannot be worse (and it's not like a meta or fourth wall break thing on purpose with Grodin, and trying to make it into some kind of Andy Kaufman thing is a bad excuse also I think). Even Steven Seagal, Donald Trump, Al Sharpton had all kind of pulled off their sketches without having it crash and burn like Grodin did.

Why single out only the "bad" guest hosts for reading the cue cards? They ALL read the cue cards, every single cast member -- one of the dumbing down tendencies of SNL virtually throughout its existence. Check out most of the early sketch comedy shows -- Carol Burnett, Sid Caesar, Jackie Gleason, etc. -- all pros who learned their lines and delivered sketches in a more convincing, more professional way.
