@whatever31324 жыл бұрын
If I recall correctly at the time, there were a few reasons people believed it was either staged or her fault. Right after the incident, MTV CEO Tom Freston stated in an interview that it was staged by Jackson as a stunt. It was later elaborated that MTV staff come up with the idea and that Jackson was supposed to be wearing a red-lace bra underneath. The story goes that her bra "collapsed" during the performance and her breast was exposed. Jackson also gave a statement that said "My decision to change the Super Bowl performance was made after the final rehearsal. MTV, CBS, [and] the NFL had no knowledge of this whatsoever and unfortunately, the whole thing went wrong in the end. I am really sorry if I offended anyone, that was truly not my intention." It made it sound like she saying that it was her decision to change the show without telling anyone, and was her mistake. That's part of the reason people didn't blame Timberlake as much. As for why she got more blame, first, when her top was ripped off, she was wearing what appeared to be pasties over her nipples. People argued that why was she wearing those if there was supposed to be bra on and they weren't meant to be seen? Second, when her new album came out, she was topless on the cover (albeit with her back turned). I remember some newscasters at the time stating that they believed it was an accident until that came out, because it looked like she did this to drum up interest for her album. Third, she went on the David Letterman show a little after the incident, wore something very revealing, and when Letterman started pressing her about the incident she eventually cursed and had to be censored, which people took to mean that she didn't have a good answer, meaning it was set up. I'm not saying it wasn't also due to misogyny or racism. I'm just saying it wasn't as clear cut and dry as people looking back on it today make it look. Now, we hardly care, saying what damage did seeing her breast do to anyone? At the time, the country was more conservative than it is now.
@BmoreAkuma4 жыл бұрын
Karen's made it her fault

For the same reason as when a woman gets raped, to some people it's still her fault. Historically among a.. conservative set, women are held to a much higher moral standard. Men are expect to "sow their oats," but an unmarried woman having sex -- horrors.

Come on, now. It's safe to say a woman doesn't wear a tear-away top and pasties unless she's planning to lose her top. And, before and since, Justin Timberlake is not known for randomly ripping off woman's tops during a performance (I can't speak to his private time). It was and is, obviously, part of the show that they didn't get cleared, first. The attempted cover-up (absolutely no pun intended) by both singers and their camps was pathetic and showed just how little they think of the general population's intelligence. I agree with Derric, though, that it was BS that everyone made such a big deal about it. It was a nothing part of the show.

@@nicholasmaude6906 Many people make the assumption that auto tune means that you can't sing which is was I referring to. It's not necessarily true (the way I understand it) though, I think you HAVE to sing off key to make it work and get the effect
@austinswanson5 жыл бұрын
@@cnett486 No you definitely don't. That sound comes from making the pitch 100% perfect and in the process taking out any vibrato or pitch wavering at the end of notes. Since no one sings 100% perfectly on tune, thats more than enough for Auto-Tune to work; you can sing completely normally and get that auto-tune effect with programs like Antares Auto-Tune and Waves Tune. I think what you guys are attributing to Auto-Tune you ACTUALLY mean to attribute to pitch correction, which is the individual movement of notes into the correct pitch through use of a program like Melodyne. The distinction is that Auto-Tune is a algorithm and done broadly to a whole vocal recording where pitch correction is done to each individual note... so when using Auto-Tune you have to be within range of the tonal center of the note you want, but with pitch correction you could sing everything completely wrong and still move the notes to the right places (kinda).

Even though its true about what O'Connor said, she still ripped a photo of a Catholic Pope and it's disrespectful to religion if she really wanted to show sexual abuse isn't okay she should have used someone who isn't part of religion, cause she basically said 'fight the real enemy' which can come across as 'Fight the rapists or Fight the Catholics' It can come across as offensive for us who are actually Catholic at the time. She could have said it differently at that time too. But it's all been done.. She got cancelled and that's why she's a nobody now.

Plus the Pope was hiding the sexual abuse because he didn't want our faith to be a fraud. He wanted to keep the Catholic faith flowing so he had to hide other Father's disgusting truths.
