Pantera lives one street over from me in Arlington, which is where they're originally from. My BiL went to high school with them and has one of their autographed demo CDs from before they were signed. Pentatonix came from the same high school. Pantera lives in an old farm house complete with a porch and swing, and the only indication that anybody important lives there - besides the off and on presence of a tour bus parked out front - is a simple wrought iron gate with a small sign on it asking people to respect their privacy, which we do. The house had huge inflatable monster hands coming over the top of it until a hail storm shredded them. Needless to say the front yard was a solid ocean of flowers after Dimebag passed.

This is cool. Variety is the spice of life. I am so glad Beatles is number one. Not only is that my top favorite band, I also studied its history with obsession. I find it fascinating how the music changed over time. I think of it in terms of four eras. These eras have their own albums. The first era has the teeny bopper pop music. The albums are Please Please Me, With the Beatles and Hard Days Night. This was early sixties. The second era had the heavier and more bluesy music. The albums are Beatles For Sale, Help, Rubber Soul and Revolver. This was mid sixties. This is also my favorite Beatles Era. The third era had psychadelic rock music. The albums are Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine. This was around 1967. The fourth era had a mixture of stuff. It is most noteworthy for the time the band was breaking up. It was the late 60s. There are three albums. White Album was a double album, and it had a wide variety of stuff. Let It be was more relaxed in its music. Abbey Road is more excited and intense. I do have fun learning about the different band members. My favorite is John Lennon. It is not only because he was the most famous, but also because he was the most relatable for me. I especially like it when he sings about his feelings and imagination, especially when singing slow. To his credit, John did produce a lot of gems during my favorite era. These are songs like "No Reply", "Help", "Norwegian Wood", "Rain" and "I'm Only Sleeping". That stuff is pure gold. I am gladI am glad that my favorite band also happens to be a really famous an influential one. That way I can learn about other groups, and I have a good frame of reference. I know of a few examples of Beatles influence. The Beatles had a rivalry with the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys. So the other bands can produce things that are similar. For example, the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds is a whole lot like Rubber Soul. The Beatles made movies, with some of their albums working as soundtracks for the movies. The Monkees have something like that, except in the form of a TV show. The Monkees music is like the teeny bopper pop of the first Beatles era. The Beatles worked on their first psychadelic rock album, Sgt. Pepper. At the same time and same studio, Pink Floyd worked on their debut album, Piper at the Gates of Dawn. That album was also psychadelic rock. That is jut the tip of the iceberg. There are probably lots of other examples of Beatles influence. It does baffle me why the last Beatle Era had two of the most popular albums. I thought the albums were relatively weak. Now I realize that they are probably suited for different tastes. The White Album is all over the place, and that would be fun to pick and choose songs for inspiration. I like the slow and pretty songs, like "Julia" and "I Will". However their is praise for "Helter Skelter" of all songs. It was an influence for more more intense kinds of rock, such as metal. Abbey Road is like that, but it is most of the album. It is a bit too upbeat and intense for my taste, but I can see how it can influence the more intence bands. That stuff is a far cary from the prettier pop from the first era. My favorite songs on the album are the George Harrison and Ringo Starr ones. That seems to be a precursor to the beautiful music George did later in his solo carer. Later on, there were two newer songs for the Beatles Antholgy. They are "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love". It sounded like Abbey Road music but better. The music sound was similar, but the tunes were a bit prettier. I am currently developing playlists for my story writing. I draw from a variety of artists and genres. I do focus of music that is pretty and emotional but also sad and creepy. Now I realize that my favorite Beatles era fits right in. I can be influenced too. Speaking of Pink Floyd, that is another favorite of mine. I did learn about the interesting history of the group. There was a major shift. The group started out with psychadelic rock, in the 60s. Then later they changed to prog rock, and that is the genre they are best known for. The major prog rock albums were in the 70s. One of them was Dark Side of the Moon. It is a really famous and influential album. It is also my favorite Pink Floyd album and my favorite concept album in general. The major prog rock albums is my favorite Pink Floyd era. Earlier today I watched a Mojo video about the top albums to launch a music genre. Dark Side of the Moon made it on the list due to the launching of prog rock. That made me so happy and excited. Thevideo even mentioned my favorite Pink Floyd song, "Time". I do have a favorite Pink Floyd band member. This is Roger Waters. My favorite thing about the band is how deep and profound the lyrics and concepts get. It really blew my mind, when I found out. Roger was the one to come up with such album concepts, so he is my favorite. I even like The Final Cut, which is an album focused on him. This video makes me more interested in musicians I ignored before. I am not a huge fan of Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson and Prince. Yet I wonder if they have songs I may like better than their main hits. I know very little about David Bowie, but now I am curious. The most mind blowing one is the Bee Gees. WTF?! I thought this was a disco band. I didn't know they started out with slower prettier songs like the Beatles first Era. Now that would really be something to check out. I am not a huge fan of disco, but I don't hate it either. Disco was a bit overrated in its heyday, but the amount of vitriol it got later on was undeserved. Disco was alright, even though other 70s music was far superior. The early Bee Gees stuff seems way more like my style. I might be able to find something I like. The more you know.

A few others worth considering are Olivia Newton-John (easy listening to country to pop), Diana Ross (motown to disco to pop), and John Denver (folk to easy listening to country).

No Madonna or Cher? I mean Madonna's changing with the times is so much a thing it's joked about.
@wolf93543 жыл бұрын
Yeah i am surprised, i thought madonna would be #1, with ther style changing over the years, including mainstream pop, synth music, new jack swing (early 90s), to dance (late 90s) and even trance and many more.

Avenged Sevenfold is another good one for this topic. They started off metalcore, shifted to straight heavy metal with the City Of Evil album, and recently shifted to prog metal with "The Stage"

Some artists to consider: Scott Walker (from pop star to experimental-industrial-weirdo), Mike Patton (from thrash metal to orchestal pop and anything in between), Ulver (from black metal to avant-garde rock and synthpop), My Bloody Valentine (from goth rock to shoegaze giants).

Ok so much to go through. I didn't know who Damon Albarn is and then you said Gorillaz and I was like "😱😱😱😱😱😱I had no idea about this!" Taylor Swift I knew for awhile cuz I'm part Swifty. I didn't know that about Radiohead I do know about Karma Police cuz my sis loves Radiohead but nothing before he changed sound. I most definitely did not know about No doubt. I grew up with Hollaback girl. When you mentioned Skrillex I thought you were gonna say Dubstep to Hip-hop and kpop cuz I know Dirty Vibe and he even did reggae with Damion Jr. Gong with Make it Bun dem not to mention those times he collabed with Diplo, what was their name again? But I most definitely didn't know about his Post Hardcore origins. That's amazing! I didn't know the Bee Gees had a sound likened to the Beatles before Stayin' alive and onwards? Crazy to think about. Basically what I'm saying is aside from Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, The Beatles and Linkin Park I didn't know any of this. Inclusive of Katy Perry might I add. I started with I Kissed a Girl. That's how I knew her. Although recently I've noticed she's sounded different from those songs like Chained to the Rhythm and Feels. I applaud any artist who takes the risk of going to different genres because it's trying to reinvent themselves but also gives em range. I will say though when I first heard Cardigan on the radio I thought it was a new artiste debuting. So you can imagine my surprise when I learned it was TayTay.

Artists should be able to experiment and change their artistry without backlash. Do you only eat one type of food? Do you only watch one type of movie genre? Everyone should be able to do what they want to do and like what they want to like.

WEEN! The only consistent thing about Ween is their inconsistency. While most albums had a dominant sound-they always switched things up. The only album where they stuck to a style was 12 Golden Country Greats.... which also represents their biggest diversion...and dedication. Punk, Funk, Folk ,Soul, "Rap", "Reggae", Sea Shanties, Kids songs, electronic, inspired by Beatles, Buffet and Bee-Gees... and often undefinable.
