Mei Rose You that’s strange it’s usually said amongst black people. Maybe its because your younger or where you live? Its definitely used a lot in Texas. I was born in the 80’s. Idk why you haven’t heard it if your black and act white. Also I’d like to add that stuff like calling someone an “Oreo” is what’s wrong with our people today. If a black person acts and speaks with any common they are considered to be acting white. As if the only way one is to be black is by acting ignorant and living up to racial stereotypes. I’ve been called an oreo And have been told I talk like “a white boy” a bunch and always shut those comments down immediately. Just because someone of dark skin doesn’t act like a complete moron doesn’t make any less black. A bunch of our people act a certain way just to fit in with our contemporaries. I actually made a lot of mistakes trying to live up to a stereotype just to fit in with the people in my neighborhood when I was younger. It wasn’t till I got older when I realized I didn’t have to do that.

Ha, interesting you say that. I wonder what it would've been like had they released only a white Oreo Barbie? Would people then get mad and demand a black one? But now we see what happened when there was a black one, sooo...what's the solution here? XD I say it shouldn't be so black and white, lol. There ARE other races in the world. How many Latina Barbies are there? By the way, I'm black and have been called Oreo. Not a fun term, especially when you have those of your own race making fun of you for speaking "white" when I want nothing more than to slam a head against a locker and say "It's called speaking proper!" Correct grammar shouldn't be limited to black or white or any race for that matter. So damn happy I'm in college now. Anywho, had I known of this Barbie when it was released though, I'm not sure if I would've gotten mad. I have a strong sense of humor so I probably would've looked at it and said "...Really? So I guess this is what they're coming out with nowadays, huh?" and that would've been the end of the matter for me.

I thought the black barbie was well made. Mattel didn't make the black doll just "slightly tanner than the white barbie". I thought the dolls were very well made. Here's how I feel about all these toys: Shape Shifters: Punisher: WTF? Oozinator: Just Plain Wrong Pole Dancer:I have a feeling that this toy was never meant for children Entertech: This is why Nerf guns and water guns are always bright colored. Golliwog: Really racist Bebe Gloton: It shouldn't bother anybody that this doll breastfeeds. But it's a little much to have the bra with fake nipples. And I have to admit the sucking sound is a little creepy. Tarzan: lol Oreo Barbie: Doesn't bother me. People took it too seriously. Nimbus 2000: I feel bad for any kid that's played with this toy. I really do. Rafiki and Simba: That's unfortunate. To me that scene shouldn't be made into a toy. I would rather just have a mini statue of Rafiki holding baby Simba.

No, you are missing the point. Oreo is a term (kind of fading out now) that describes a black person trying to assimilate into white culture...Very much like some of the Native Americans did. It is a term that denotes treachery. ..The term is rarely used now though.
@phantomshadow198110 жыл бұрын
Lekks Luthor The thing a lot of people don't realize is oreo was coined by black culture as a term for shaming other black people who assimilate any culture that wasn't considered black enough. Similar to my best friend's brother telling him he lost his 'hood pass' because he likes Billy Joel.

***** Well..yes...that is exactly what it is...but in the 80s, thanks to MTV, a lot of blacks liked rock and singers like Billy Joel, including myself..just like a lot of whites got hooked on the Sugar Hill Gang....I remember when RUN DMC did a song with Aerosmith...It bridged the cultures a little.

How the hell was Gwen controversial? American Girl does things like that. Addy Walker was a slave in the civil war, escaped with her mom and baby brother while having to leave behind her father and brother. Nellie O'Malley was a some what abused maid in the victorian times.

well people thought it was going to help fund the homeless but it wasn't, so they said there was no point for it. Slavery has ended and that doll teaches kids about the hard life of slaves.

American girls dolls were originally designed for historical awareness aimed towards kids. They’ve constantly gotten a lot of heat over the years but I loved them. They were always meant to tell real stories with a realistic look of the girls no matter the ethnicity which is what always set them apart. Plus there was a huge scandal of them saying they profits were going to homeless shelters and they weren’t. A lot of the original American girl dolls had movies to go along with them to show what their significance was and the scope of their problems that they faced (one of them gave me nightmares when a little girl in an orphanage was forced to work in a factory that was sewing clothes and sewed through her finger on accident)
@kloverleavezisdeadlol5 жыл бұрын
Also Kit was living during the Great Depression, and Nanea was living during WW2, and her home was bombed. So I don’t see how that’s ok but a girl being *homeless* isn’t.

Gwen was contriversal because she was homeless but American dolls cost around 95$. So the doll was raising awareness about homeless people but it costed 95$ . The cost made it contriversal since the doll was homeless.

Honestly, the only controversial toys I really see here that could affect children are the Entertech Guns and the Pole Dancer. The rest of these are only controversial because adults see them as sexually related. Kid's don't know any better and probably don't even think anything is wrong with them. I highly doubt a 6 year old would see that Tarzan toy and be like "Mommy, Tarzan is jacking off" or see that Oreo Barbie and think it's racist...
@Yakuso10 жыл бұрын
It's not that the Oreo Barbie doll is racist. The word Oreo just has a really negative connotation within the Black community. I was called an Oreo many times as a child. It basically means if you, as an African-American, don't "act black", i.e use slang, listen to rap, dress a certain way, like Tyler Perry, or only be interested in anything associated with Black Culture, then you are not truly Black. Your are racially Black on the outside, but not culturally on the inside apparently. This lead to much social isolation for me as a child being the one Black kid who'd rather watch Anime than BET. It was terrible childhood, being completely rejected from a community because of different tastes, that honestly didn't get better until high school when, finally, there were other people who liked what I liked. If you've lived with this term, and then see it on a Black Barbie doll it brings with it vast amounts of shame and self loathing for those who have experienced the word. It's like creating a "Raped Girl" toy. People who have actually been raped would be appalled because of the insensitivity and horrible memories it brings back. Same kind of goes for the word Oreo.

The Burger King Poke Balls- When "Pokémon the First Movie" came out, Burger King promoted the movie with Pokémon toys that came in Poke Ball containers. However, after an infant suffocated to death from having half the Poke Ball on her face with a vacuum effect, the toy was recalled. I'm surprised those things aren't high-sellers on Ebay.

Generation 1 Megatron- Before toy guns were required to have orange tips on the barrel, Megatron took the shape of a realistic gun. I heard that one kid got in trouble for bringing one to school. Megatron hasn't been a gun since.

Josh Sinclair i actually have that toy lol. Its awesome, but i can also see why it was controversial back in the day, i still remember the news reports about it when i was a kid

I still have 4 of the Poke-Balls and the toy does not have a vacuum effect in it. It did have some small pieces (but very few).

Josh Sinclair Damn, that Megatron was the best! I actually liked him way more than Optimus Prime back then.

Don't Reply Yeah, but in hindsight, making Megatron a tank is more practical since his gun mode always needed to be carried by other Decepticons. Mostly Starscream, the one Megatron knows is always trying to usurp him.
