They should've put Appetite close to number one if not number one. It's got three of the biggest songs of the eighties on it and is also the best selling debut album in the history of rock n roll. It also completely changed rock. It kicked out the boring glam and gave the world this power house that knocked you on your ass.

Sgt Pepper has the double distinction of being the best album and the worst movie ever.
@kirstendieker87574 жыл бұрын
Excellent point! Many people seem to be overlooking that this list contains albums that were important in rock HISTORY; thus, they should have the distinction of breaking new ground--charting completely new musical territory--in addition to being incredibly great albums in their own right. Further, they need not have necessarily been the most popular at the time of their release; widely influential albums often aren't. Therefore, I can't BELIEVE VU & Nico wasn't on there. Or The Stooges for that matter. I'd kick off Radiohead and Pink Floyd and replace them with the ones I noted.

The Velvet Underground and Nico influenced damn near every band that ever mattered since it came out. Most of the punk scene of the 70s, Talking Heads & Television, R.E.M. as well as the pixies. and on to the Strokes and most of the bands that saved rock in the 2000s. All the albums mentioned are great and influential, but to not have this album on it just seems wrong.

This list is worthless garbage without recognizing that album. Without it, you don't get "Ok Computer," "London Calling," or "Nevermind," or 1000s of other albums influenced by it.

'Helter Skelter' from Paul McCartney in the Beatles leads rock to heavy metal far beyond that any song or experimentation made by Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck before Black Sabbath. It's a fact and it's remarkable due it wasn't anything like that in the music history. But it's easier to rockers give credit to led zeppellin...

Some of you are looking at this the wrong way. This isn't a list of "favorite" albums. It's a list of albums that most changed Pop and Rock music because they were released. Sgt. Pepper because, before that album, everyone sounded like they were recording inside of a garbage truck (i.e. Twist and Shout). Post Sgt.. Pepper, full symphony orchestration, w/strings, brass, woodwinds, and any other sound you thought was interesting throw in were possible. At the time, there were 3 people/groups competing to define Pop/Rock for the future; the Beatles (Lennon/McCartney), Dylan and Brian Wilson, and each of their best Albums is here. The other albums present something new, or helped define a new movement for the masses. London Calling is more influential than Sex Pistols because the Pistols had a limited audience. The clash brought punk to the mainstream. Radiohead weren't the first, but they were considered accessible by a larger audience. Nevermind just changed everything, period.... genius is just genius. So once a new musical genre became part of the mainstream, it helped influence whatever came later. So Back in Black or Appetite for Destruction may be your favorite albums, but they don't represent something new or a significant change in what was already being produced.

what about the debut album of The Doors? one of the most important albums in the dawning of psychedelic rock and on top of that Light my fire was very important in television history for being a song that blew everyone's minds on the Ed Sullivan show... not to mention one of the few times someone really made Ed angry

We could all literally argue about the top 10 most influential rock albums until the cows come home but I think that anyone who does not see that Sgt. Pepper is undoubtedly the most influential rock album of all time is crazy. It literally changed music history forever. Out of every influential album there is, that one’s impact is felt to this very day. However, I do agree that not including Velvet Underground & Nico is also insane. Should be at least an honorable mention. I mean, the album artwork is a literal banana and yet it is one of the most recognizable album covers in the world. The influence and impact is massive.
@ninjaking2548 Жыл бұрын
Imo Revolver was more influential. Sgt Peppers does only slightly more than Revolver, and revolver came first

Fire Fist Ace nirvana was important for grunge and moving rock to the mainstream again. as for ac/dc... they changed nothing and released the same album every time.
@nishchalthakur24876 жыл бұрын
ellie AC/DC had some of the best albums of all time. Back in black is the second most selling album of all time. They gave much more to music than Nirvana. Plus Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden were all better gunge bands than Nirvana. Only STP was behind Nirvana. I am a big grunge and all round music fan but Nirvana has to be the most overrated band of all time. Plus this video is talking about their live performances and AC/DC have some of the greatest live performances. Just see their performance in Argentina and you'll know what I'm talking about.
@pip62936 жыл бұрын
Fire Fist Ace Fire Fist Ace selling lots does not equal a good album. aside from some pearl jam hits and black hole sun, none of those bands, better then nirvana or not, got the same amount of attention as nirvana did. nirvana are overrated, slightly, but ac/dc are way more overrated. there's some great music and i'm sure they put on a good show but as for their actual music? no thanks. and nirvana's mtv unplugged is a staple in live albums. it's all subjective though
