@Dafyd Maddz absolutely. It's all rock and roll. I'm a huge rocker. The winner is . . . Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin influenced almost every band and existence. The Beatles - their best album was Led Zeppelin II. The famous Led Zeppelin IV was just an extension of II. Stairway to Heaven just has chord progression and the stand out track was . . When the Levee Breaks. Black Dog has the most interesting riff and hardest to play . . . BUT . . . I have been told that Pagey stuffed up the outro. My guitar playing mates tell me that Jimmy Page makes a couple of errors and his guitar is out of tune. This leads us too . . .. a group of guitar playing Rock critics doing reviews of Seventies rock bands. You guessed it . . . as it came down too Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. I love both bands. Machine Head - won and beat out Led Zeppelin IV WHY - Machine Head is note for note perfect. Yeah , it has the most famous riff in the world with Smoke on the Water. The whole album was practically played live and you can hear it on Made in Japan. Made in Japan - the perfect and greatest ever live album. Its practically all of Machine Head. There are no overdubs on Made in Japan. It was recorded on $US1,200 and sold millions everywhere,especially the United States. It cracked open the door for the U.S and both Machine Head and Made in Japan went platinum. Purple's bassist, Roger Glover, has the Billboard awards for most albums sold.

One album per band is a pretty dumb rule, tbh. It makes no sense. It should be the "best" of the best - regardless of the band. Why should a lower ranked album get put higher on the list than an album that was better, just because one band might have two great albums? Makes no sense

It’s not a bad list. “Important” is such an interesting adjective. In this context it would mean setting a trend or defining a style or showing what was possible. Certainly “Black Sabbath" and "Led Zepp 2" defined styles. "Pyromania" got me into heavy metal. "Appetite for Destruction" was definitely the most important album when I was 17. I realize you have to draw the line somewhere, but I feel like "Master of Puppets" and "Piece of Mind" could have at least been honorable mentions.

At least someone at watchmojo noticed Deep Purple. Applause! *ironic mode off* In my personal opinion In Rock is much more important than Machine Head: It came out in 1970, two years earlier than Machine Head, it was harder, louder and rawer than anything before, and from the very first second it goes... no, it rushes, it races straight into your face! I love Deep Purple, and I love Machine Head, but compared to In Rock it sounds like played with the Hand brake pulled on, literally "tame". For me In Rock was the birth of hard rock. Period.

@dark whispers-the Seattle sound really only reached those actually IN Seattle in 1987. It didn’t hit the rest of us until 1991, so when it hit from about ‘88 on, AFD was about as big as a new band could get.

If you look at the sales numbers, influence, album tour results, and longevity of the music I don’t know how Slippery When Wet isn’t on this list. Bon Jovi sold a million copies a week for the first 6 weeks on that album. And the number of hits on Slippery When Wet(1986) and New Jersey(1988) put both of those albums over several on this list.
@MrRobarinoАй бұрын
It isn't about number of album sales, it's about how important, ground breaking, iconic or trendsetting the album was. Slippery When Wet had some great songs and sold a lot of copies but it didn't break any new ground or change the genre in any new or unique way.
@80HD85 жыл бұрын
The problem with having categories of music is that a lot of bands cross over into different styles of music. Led Zeppelin could be viewed as blues, rock, heavy rock or even soft rock with some of their acoustic songs. So people will always argue about what bands should and shouldn't be included in you list. Having said that I agree with you picks, however I would have put Van Halen at #2.
