I might’ve said this before, and I will say it again: the fact that this corrupt broadcaster, ITV, is commissioning more new series of Love Island after 3 suicides just makes me feel sickened right in my stomach. All I am hoping for is for the previous series to be the very last of this slaughterhouse of a reality TV show.

What about shows that should've gone another two seasons? Fawlty Towers, the Young Ones, Blackadder, Waiting for God, the Inbetweeners, Men Behaving Badly, Game On, the Good Life, Coupling (with Jeff's return), Black Books, Little Britain, the Royle Family, the Office (UK), the IT Crowd and the Mighty Boosh.
@DynamixWarePro4 ай бұрын
While I never liked Little Britain and don't think it should have ran on longer, I would have liked to have seen more episodes of Black Books. I think with some of the shows you mentioned, the good thing about them and part of their appeal is that they didn't have a lot of episodes that could drag out storylines, stretch plots and settings that don't work as well if drawn out over a longer amount of episodes. Especially when you throw in an aging cast and possibly changes to the cast that might be needed to keep the show continuing over a longer time.

Casualty has gone on for too long. In the past it had drama but it also had interesting characters and some comedy to back it up with characters like Mac and Noel. These days it's mostly just a show where everyone shouts at one another constantly. It was never high art but the characters all feel so 1 dimensional now. The show really started going down hill when Stevie got introduced. She came in as a violent force who embodied just being a shouty angry character and then slowly over time seems to have effected the rest of the cast and writing. I barely watch the show anymore because it's just miserable now. It feels like I'm just watching a bunch of depressed people who don't get along at all.
@abegarfield70314 ай бұрын
I'm amazed it was on Telly at all. It was really graphic in the '80s, a time when people would get hysterical over violence in films but no one seemed to mind it happening on Casualty, before the watershed too. It wasn't just medical stuff, it would show really horrific accidents.

I really did love watching Red Dwarf. It it is my favorite series, although I have to admit that season 7 was one of the weakest from the series, and it was sad to see Rimmer left the show, until he was back in Season 8. Kristine Kochanski, who was introduced as Rimmer's replacement in Season 7, is an incredibly annoying character who sucks the fun out of any scene she's in. Fortunately, aside from a brief cameo in Back to Earth, the Dave episodes have completely ignored the character, and Doug Naylor has said she probably won't ever return. Love the show, but Season 7 was the weakest, although two episodes were the best from that season, Stoke Me a Clipper and Blue.

Red Dwarf - Should have ended with the cliff hanger after series 6. Thing is, I've recently been watching some of the cast interviews talking about the later BBC series' and the revivals on Dave, and they spun such positive angles that I began questioning if I was the one who wasn't appreciating the genius of them. But no, I want to love all of Red Dwarf but I just don't. Series 7 was so flat and disappointing, after the mega series 6 and a long gap between. Rimmer leaving was a huge blow, but even the episodes with him were dull. Series 8 kind of pepped it up and gave it a renewed energy, but it just didn't feel like Red Dwarf. It felt like an American sitcom. The Dave revivals, I haven't watched much of. I lost interest. Back to Earth I enjoyed, but it wasn't really a sitcom. Beyond that, I just feel that it has jumped the shark and doesn't feel like a natural continuation of the golden BBC Two years. It's just painting by numbers and creating no masterpieces. Big Brother - Oh, man. Where to even start. I loved that show in the early years. It was a very simple format, it was about people. Just watching people. Somehow, the stories naturally came together and made a gripping soap opera out of unscripted material. And although it was raw and edgy at times, it was always fun. Then series 4 got a lot of negative reviews. The footage wasn't rolling in, it was boring. But what is always overlooked, is the fact that it was a ratings smash success. It matched the average ratings of the first two series'. The following series did need pepping up a bit though, it was clear that there needed to be an injection of producer influence to ensure that things actually happened. But... oh dear. This was where the show began to derail. They went for the cheapest stunts possible. They went all out for as much arguing and aggression possible. Which kind of worked in the short term, I have to be honest. But it culminated with the inevitable scandal of CBB5, and that was the end of Big Brother. Everything after has just been zombie Big Brother. It's so plastic and trashy. I have never been so polarized in my opinions of a show. I loved the early years, but hate what it has become.

It is terrible that Love Island is still on the air after what has happened. It need to end along with Celebrity Big Brother and they have to stop making shows like those. I disagree with Last of the Summer Wine being on the list. I consider it a timeless classic and I still watch episodes of it today. While I preferred the show when Compo, Clegg and Foggy were the main 3, I still liked the others who took over as the old men characters, just not as much with some of them like Russ Abbotts character. I would also disagree with Red Dwarf, sort of. While it is one of my favourite British shows and I did like Kochanski when she took over from Rimmer but I did prefer having Rimmer in the show. I wasn't struck on the last episode "Red Dwarf: The Promised Land" but I do wish they would give us a proper ending to the show instead of keeping it going too much longer as I read there is going to be 3 new episodes in 2025.
