Not a ND grad but there are probably few who wanted Freeman to succeed more than I did. BUT, Freeman is not up to the job - not even close. Don't be surprised if ND loses 3 or 4 games total by end of season. Freeman will then be let go. We all want a nice, classy guy like Freeman to succeed, but he has shown he cannot take ND to the supreme heights of contending for National Championships.

Lou Holtz would ALWAYS talk about the next opponent as being an extremely dangerous team, and that the Irish would have to be fortunate to stay in the game. The press and fans would make fun of Holtz for making such statements, but it was also known that he would tell his tea, the same things on Mondays, and that they had little chance to win, them slowly build to Friday, where he would tell the team that they were ready for battle. He never let his teams take anything for granted.

As the head coach, it’s YOUR JOB to keep yourself, your coaches, and your players grounded, ensuring that NO opponent is underestimated or overlooked. Your leadership sets the standard for the entire team. Embrace Knute Rockne’s wisdom: "Build up your weaknesses until they become your strong points." Focus on identifying and transforming those weaknesses into strengths. You have the chance right now to turn things around. Without these improvements, this may be your final year at ND. Our players deserve nothing less than exceptional leadership.

I just watched a postgame video of Coach Hammock praising his players and telling them that they didn’t need luck, they just needed to believe and want it more than the other team and they did exactly that. Where is that edge with Notre Dame Football? I was a supporter of Coach Freeman when he was first hired and thought that even though the inexperience would potentially have a couple of hiccups the bigger trajectory would be more sustainable winning seasons and overall bigger success than the predecessor. After Saturdays performance I no longer share that same sentiment. This program looks like it is at a stand still with no possible solutions UNLESS Freeman takes honest responsibility for how he has ran this program especially on offense and allow the coordinator who Notre Dame Paid Top Dollar for do what he was PAID TO DO!!! Riley Leonard is NOT the solution! You have the Solution collecting splinters on their butts in that QB Room!! Stop being Conservative and Make the changes or just cancel the entire thing.

I have seen Faust for 5 years, Davie for 5 years, Weis for 5 years, and Freeman, for the bowl game, 2 seasons, and 2 games. That is 17 seasons and 3 games, and the longest winning streak has been 8 games. Davie 1998 and Weis 2006. Both of those seasons ND ended being humiliated at USC in the season finale, and getting blown out in the Bowl. Ara, Lou, Devine and Kelly, all had double digit win streaks, Lou, Ara and Kelly had undefeated regular seasons. If you want to lose 3+ games per year and never contend for a National Championship, continue to hire coaches with no experience.

With greatest sincere respect, everything Coach F listed as to why the game was lost falls squarely and heavily on his shoulders. This is not a 1 off - this is the 3rd year in a row of catastrophic losses to vastly inferior teams - it is unfortunately a horrific pattern - Marshall, Stanford, and now N. Illinois. There must be immediate drastic change and imorovement on that front, failing which there must be head coaching change for next season. Sorry but it is the bona fide uncomfortable but clear truth.

Just a historical reminder. In 1977, ND was a pre-season favorite for the NC. I memory serves they won a fistfight in Pittsburgh 19-9 behind starting QB Rusty Lisch, then lost at Mississippi. "Dump Devine," stickers came out because despite a great defense the offense was anemic. The 3rd game was at. PURDUE. Notre Dame fell behind, Lisch was benched the 2nd qb was no better, and the 3rd string qb was hurt. Replacing him was Joe Montana. That team went on to beat Texas for the national championship. The question i have is this, will this PURDUE game reveal a "new Joe Montana?" Just thinking out loud.

Freeman is starting to lose a lot of the Notre Dame fan base. A lot of fans are starting to lose faith and feel completely different towards Freeman. This can't keep happening! You had your Marshall and Stanford and even Louisville! You are now in your third year and lose to NIU! Unacceptable! I don't think he understands the seriousness of this now. There are no more mulligans Freeman! This is Notre Dame! Former Notre Dame captain and linebacker Mike Goolsby completely sounded off on Freeman and is about completely done with Freeman. He lost all confidence in him! A lot of fans feel different towards Freeman now! You cannot keep putting the fan base through this Freeman and he just isn't getting it! There is some real incompetence going on here! This is all on Freeman and has been a consistent pattern since Freeman got here! That comment Freeman made during the game about Leonard, freaked out a lot of people! Bryan Driskell at Irish breakdown, wrote a beautiful article about the comment Freeman made and on the quarterback situation and how it goes much deeper than Riley Leonard and even though Leonard played bad, he is just a symptom of a much deeper sickness at Notre Dame and at the quarterback position. For example, if Freeman feels that way, which is a completely wrong way of thinking to begin with, but if he does, then WHY DO YOU BRING IN SOMEONE LIKE RILEY LEONARD WHO IS A PLAY MAKER AND STREET BALLER! IF YOU WANT A ROBOT, WHY BRING IN LEONARD? You bring Leonard in and then Freeman tells him not to be all the things that make Riley Leonard, "Riley Leonard" and difficult to defend! Freeman did the same thing with Sam Hartman! Hartman was a gun slinger and one of, if not the best deep ball throwers in all of college football, putting up 4,000 passing yards a season AT WAKE FOREST! He comes to Notre Dame and Freeman takes away what Makes Sam Hartman, "Sam Hartman!" Freeman keeps beating it in these guys head don't turn the ball over, don't make a mistake and it is messing with their heads and making them afraid to throw the ball and make a mistake! About half way through the season last year, Hartman start looking hesitant to throw the deep ball and afraid to make mistakes, which in turn, got in his head and caused him to make mistakes anyway! Hartman regressed and he didn't even put up enough passing yards to get to 3,000. Hartman regressed and looked like a different QB by the middle of the season on. Freeman ruined him. There appears to be a major disconnect and offensive philosophy problem with Freeman, that is handcuffing this offense and holding it back and that is the reason we keep having these bad patterns of offensive struggles! We keep having these issues scoring the ball, passing the ball and at the quarterback position! These are Marcus Freemans issues! Once again, it has been a very conservative, predictable, stale and uncreative offense, that is not utilizing their weapons and talent to their strengths and best abilities! That is a problem! You have now had these offensive struggles with 3 different offensive coordinators, including one that was the highest scoring offensive coordinator in football last year, in Mike Denbrock. Also, you have now had two very good college quarterback's, with proven track records, in Sam Hartman and Riley Leonard, that have both regressed and struggled under Marcus Freeman! DO WE NOT SEE A SERIOUS PATTERN HERE! 3 OFFENSIVE COORDINATORS AND AT LEAST 2 COLLEGE PROVEN QUARTERBACKS HAVE NOW STRUGGLED AND REGRESSED UNDER MARCUS FREEMAN! THIS IS A MARCUS FREEMAN PROBLEM! HE HAS A OFFENSIVE PHILOSOPHY PROBLEM AND HANDCUFFS THE OFFENSE AND IT HAS TO GET FIXED QUICK! LET DENBROCK COOK AND DO HIS THING WITH THE OFFENSE! GO IRISH!! GOD BLESS!!!

Marcus Freeman just needs to be canned, I never liked him when they first got him. He’s just a players coach with a big mouth. But he cannot coach. If he is what we have to look forward to for the rest of the year as Notre Dame fans, we’re in trouble with this guy. They need to start looking for a new coach right now. Three years now he’s been with Notre Dame. Nothings changed. And it isn’t going to change either.

QUIT OVERTHINKING it … man . Against Ohio state instead of trusting Estime and running the ball right at them at the end to close the game out we try some cute home run play that gets swatted down and we lose the game . Again this week your tailbacks on the team Love and Price u give them a few carries they show u they can get yards but you limit their opportunity and don’t trust them to close out the game again . u say ur identity is running the ball but you don’t implement what u say. If u don’t step in and tell the OC stop trying to be tricky and going for it all in one shot with 2 and 1 bomb and to just run it and punch them in the mouth … ur gonna lose your job .

No question this job is too big for him. You can see it in his eyes. This was an emotional decision hiring Marcus as HC, the kids who insisted are gone. He can’t recruit or develop a quarterback. He paid a million dollars for a guy who could not have passed a physical. Guys who committed here have seen 3 consecutive transfers come in and get handed a starting job and a Captaincy, that’s unfair and not what the university stands for supposedly. Another presser full of excuses and no solid plan to fix the issues. We’ve all been through Davie, Weiss, Carpet bagger Kelly! Enough is enough! Go get a top notch HC with a winning trach record and give him the resources to build a better team! Insanity!

“Challenge everything” has to mean EVERYTHING, including Coach Freeman and everyone involved with getting the players ready for success on Saturdays. There were former athletes down on the field during warmups that saw the players’ body language and looks on their faces, and they said the ND players were NOT ready to play that game. If so, why? As for the analytics, it is fine to use them as long as you don’t lose sight of the fact that football is still human beings going against human beings. ND was getting smacked repeatedly by NIU players and never smacked back. Both of the ND lines lost the line of scrimmage battle, and that absolutely should NOT have happened!

Angeli has experience as a domer and a team member not just a transfer. Also why didn’t he come out at the second quarter and hit those wide open WRs? He also has experience against a 16 ranked Oregon State team. Buchner even looked better than Leonard, I think Leonard is a bad fit. As well as coach freeman he can yell in the locker room as much as he wants but this dude hasn’t instilled any discipline or moral. I wasn’t impressed with how they played as a 7th ranked team against a 20th team. It was quite and atmosphere but so was Virginia Tech a couple years back. I think his character is weak.

Haha because he also had plenty of good throws that were either droped or the receiver failed to get separation none of the receivers could get open for him to throw to and when he scrambled outside of the pocket they all just stood in place watching him instead of running to get open. The better question is why are you asking him to throw the ball 35 times when your two best players on offense are running backs with one of them receiving a total of four carries on the game and the other one not receiving many more and not a single one after he had a huge touchdown run.
