I've always suspected that Bruce Timm really wanted to do a Spider-Man cartoon, but he couldn't, because he worked for Warner Bros. So, he came up with Batman Beyond as a way to scratch that itch. As you rightly pointed out, there are way too many similarities between the two properties for it to be purely a coincidence. BB's costume is even reminiscent of Spider-Man's black costume, of which the original design featured a red spider. (Although that design was never used in a published comic).

online fans are nuts. Red Hulk is a very recent creation and a cool character but yes people, James is right. Red Hulk hadn't been created yet during JLU. There are similarities but JLU did it first. So Marvel was either inspired by them or it's just a big coincidence. You really do have to give James credit for staying stable during all of this. LoL, dude this was a fun video to watch!

In the Marvel mythos, Static would be considered a mutate I believe. In Marvel, all humans have the genetic potential to naturally gain powers because of the X gene (comes from Jack Kirby's celestials, insanely powerful space gods dressed in 80s era neon armor lol!), so to differentiate any character that is mutated from some outside chemical or experiment, they're just called a mutate. Notable mutates include characters like the Fantastic 4, Spiderman and the Hulk for example.

I just saw both of these reference videos. The easy one that occurs to me is in Young Justice, which I get the impression you're not counting because you're sticking exclusively with the DCAU, though Young Justice is very closely related (still different, but very close). I'm sure that, just like the DCAU easter eggs & references you've noticed, there are a ton of them in YJ, but probably the most obvious one of all is regarding Blockbuster, as Kid Flash taunts him by calling him "you Incredible Bulk."

My only complaint is that I sort of wish you included the names/usernames of those who pointed out these reference. Very cool, though! I always thought that Batman Beyond felt way more like a Spider-Man cartoon than a Batman one. I mean, look at some of the villains. Shriek is like Shocker. Spellbinder is like Mysterio. Blight is like Molten Man if we're talking about powers. Stalker is like Kraven. Combine that with the basic vibes, the teenage hero, the Batsuit's ability to cling to walls, the Fantastic 4 reference episode, etc. Maybe this is why I loved Batman Beyond sooooo much during the period in my life when I was an almost-exclusively Marvel fan.

JL: ONLY A DREAM when Superman has his out of control powers he's drawn similarly to the parody "Stuporman" from Marvel's NOT BRAND ECCH comic (with a hugely out of proportion upper body, head and hands). I'm kinda shocked they never did a marvel pastiche alternate universe episode. Kinda like the justice guild of America was a stand in for the JSA. You could do the Superman Spiderman crossover like marvel and dc had done years ago. But have your own version stand in for spidey. Maybe just call em Spider power like the comic. Show in his universe the justice league don't exist yet they have their own branch of heroes that still stand to save the day. Could've had some fun meta bits easter eggs a plenty.

The name Ra's al Ghul is actually very old. It's the full name of the star more common called Algol. It's the star that forms the head of the constellation Medusa, and Arabic astronomers named it "the head of the demon" for that reason. Possible way to make marvel and DC cross over in the DCAU- basically the marvel characters were always there but they never helped each other out much like in real life the real superhero communities, they help out different areas and only sometimes help each other out. When the episodes are over they communicate and yes this might make you guys go _fucking sicko mode_ with the continuity and what not
