you should work on 02 s/duty, mwm sprint, 4.2tdi. they never fk up..no computer, no glow plugs, mine has 700nm. german tech. built in brazil. more reliable than a dog,,or missus..im amazed what & how you fix. rust.. ausie. . a lot of 7.3,s self ignite here.. too damn hot, & they put too many accessories on them.. or not enough fuses.. have a great w/end.. we hope..

I can understand the previous person not replacing the connecter. I can imagine the frustration of blindly fiddling around for way too long, finally getting the connector on, and then the storm of curses when you realize the nubs don't line up. I would absolutely be eyeing my file and the nub on the sensor.

I've been with you for several years now and have always enjoyed your videos Wes.Recently, I got pushed out of my svc. manager position of 20 years at the local Ford dealer here in small town Texas. Big corporate company bought em out. Anyway, turns out it was a good thing. I've opened my own shop. I see you use AE Tools and computers. I got a VCM3 and IDS/FDRS with the subscription from Ford through them. Good people, although Cody sure did push to get me to buy a $3800.00 laptop of theirs! (didn't buy it) They have a great tech assist team there. Anyway, ironically, as I was watching your video I got a text from a good customer/friend that had his 2004 6.0 F250 being towed in for a no start after hot soak. I'm pretty sure he's got a high pressure oil leak... Keep up your weekly videos Wes, you have a fan base that would be seriously disappointed if you didn't!! CHEERS

Running shoe recommendation. New Balance 990's. V... whatever they're up to now. Think I had V3's and V4s. Try to find a New Balance store, get your foot measured. and get them there. They're made in the USA. I put a BUNCH of miles on mine. And after I had ran them out of shape for running I wore them as just normal use shoes for several years afterward. Just replaced the insoles, which were fairly inexpensive as well. The shoes themselves will probably run you ~$175+ ish for the pair. But for me they were money VERY well spent.

I daily drove a 2003 6.0 for 8 years,2 alternators 4 batteries and one injector it was a damn good truck, these trucks hold a special place in my heart lol

I remember when I quit doing your kind of work in the mid-80's. One of the reasons I quit was lack of access for maintenance or repair, and the frustration that went with it. Apparently, I had a cake walk compared to what you have to do. From all appearances, no manufacturer gives one iota of thought to how it will be repaired in the future. If you have to pull the engine to change the oil, f*** it. Continue on. Some of it is past being absurd. Your a better man than I am, Wes.

that is they key, they don't care if it can be repaired. they don't want you to repair they want you to drop it at the junkyard and buy the new overpriced junk with debt to keep you a debt slave.

We used to make stuff that was repairable and easy to work on. Now, we make cars and trucks as complicated as a space shuttle, and just as difficult to repair, assuming the OEM lets you repair them. Crazy strange days!

@milantrcka121 Voltage is defined by the IEEE. "Amperage" is not. You can't just append "age" to any word. It's not gearage, dampage, spring constantage, timeage, gallonage, literage, etc. If you really want to be correct, you would say "# volts of potential". What does tension have to do with it?

After owning a beautiful green king ranch trim 6.0 powerstroke for 4 years and dumping thousands into it and it still never ran right I am happy to say I will NEVER own another. Currently have an 05 Cummins and it never misses a beat. I’ve owned an old 12 valve Cummins years ago and never a problem with it. My old man had a 98 Cummins and it was perfect. Love your work Wes. I would have replaced the oil pan while it was off. Looked like a bit of rust had started to form on the bottom of the pan. They rust out frequently. You made getting that pan off look easy though.

Everytime I see you with a cascade of powdered rust falling on your head, I walk out in the shop and pat my old 1995 Chevy on the hood. It's spent the last 12 years sitting in a pasture most of the time, and although another injection pump has bitten the dust (95 6.5 liter TD, yup, not unexpected), there's pretty much zero rust on it. I may get west Texas dust in my eyes when I work on it, but it's not slowly dissolving! Thanks for the video.

When you change/drop the oil on a 6.0L, do the filter FIRST. There is a check valve that is held closed while the filter element is in place, thus holding oil. Once you remove the filter element, the oil (old/used oil) in that housing can then drain down into the pan.

If your that worried about getting every drop out. Don't forget also to drain the HEUI fuel injection systems= system also.😔

Especially an old diesel engine in the rust belt that has almost 4 GALLONS of oil in it and actually runs on the oil itself. The HPOP - high pressure oil pump & high pressure oil system directly drives the injectors. Needless to say, there's many places that oil can & will leak from these 'old' motors. 🛢️👌👍🛠️🔧🔩📏🚜⚡💥💨⚠️🚧🚚🤔

I have 2 6.0 liter engines. There are some vehicles you walk away from; you run away from these. I recently had to get to a friend that was having a heart attack. I was going over 100 mph. Next morning I had white smoke from the exhaust pipe. I guess I need Wes. GREAT VIDEO!

The more I watch you work on these newer Ford's, the more I love my 1990 F-350 gasser. No oil leaks, still runs great with the original injectors.

I was gonna say, my old 93 F250 with an 87 idi mechanical diesel is a breeze to work on compared to these newer diesels. Vehicles nowadays are a nightmare to work on.

I worked on cars doing tune-ups, carb rebuilds and brakes growing up, my classmates all got up at 3 am tossing news papers. Later after college teaching school music proved to be low pay and unstable so then I worked as a journeyman line tech at a Chrysler/Jeep dealership then 2 GMC truck dealerships and I am telling you this as fact. Just because you worked on it once doesn't mean it becomes your eternal problem. I don't care if they are family or foe, tell them your original work did not restore newness to their beater mobile!

Yes. I can also be sealed by "impregnating" it with resin.

15:19 cordless drill with a torque limiter is fine for something like that. Just put it on the lowest setting and screw them all in, then use the torque wrench to torque them down. :)

After watching a couple of your 6.0 videos, all I can say is thank God I waited to buy a diesel until I found a 7.3. Even the 7.3 can be a challenge, but compared to the 6.0, I’ll take it all day long.

Yeah. You're right Wes. There is a lot of machining that went into that part. As soon as you mentioned I was trying to work out how many operations and how many tools the machining centre would need to make that. I wonder how many of those panels ended up with improperly tapped or missing threads even if they could get the grooves right.

I think you could do it with 6 tools. Probably need a PCD facemill to get the flatness spec.

Figuring out how to fixture it would also not be a ton of fun either - it so thin that too much clamp load and flat on the mill = warped on release

Brooks Beast are great runners, I did on average 5Ks per day in the Australian Army in 80s/90s and I could get about 12 months out of them. Good luck and great fix on 6.0 I just replaced a Dor### that a shop fitted for me, they damaged the connector so I took the time replaced the pig tail and installed Motorcraft in my Australian spec (Brazilian) 7.3 all the codes cleared and with the after market sensor had engine light and intermittent start and stall while driving :(. Thank you Wes , you are a genius my friend.

Brooks are really comfortable running shoes and have held up pretty well in my opinion. They’re not cheap but well worth it in the comfort you get in return.

Watching you work on this oil pan makes wonder long and hard about being a Ford owner. The layers of possible oil leaks is an age old problem and thankfully there are mechanics like yourself.

A pity Ford never developed a diesel version of the 300-6. I never knew how good I had it. Engineers who devise such devilry in terms of access should be sentenced to the deepest regions of a hot dark greasy engine on a humid day. The old truck has a quarter million miles on it. It was due for some love. Good video, thanks. I have used PL 400 subfloor adhesive to put work boots back together. I was framing houses and it was on site . Worked well.

Gorilla glue is fantastic for sole repair; make sure you lightly moisten each surface first as that is the activator.

I’m so happy you did the oil pan gasket! On a different 6.0 video you sent the oil pan leak to another shop! Lol. I have to do this on my 2006 e350 van sometime within the next few months 😵‍💫

Awesome vid Wes. On a side note for stuff like this. If your drain plug hole is big enough you can use your 1/4" drive tools through that hole to tighten your oil pickup.

Fine job Wes as far as shoes go I have resorted to buying them in bulk knowing that regardless of how much or how little I spend on them they are only going to be good for about 6-8 weeks

(the right number of 'tough's from Shattered by the Stones?) but you did an elegant job getting it thoroughly sorted out. A note on those weatherpak-tyle connectors. With square pins and square receptacles (and this one in your video WAS already garfed up) you can enounter a scenario where the square pin resides INSIDE the metal receptacle BUT DOES NOT EVEN TOUCH THE SIDES! I experienced this on a Jeep Wrangler with a one pin weather pak from the temp sender to the gauge... You'd ohm out both sides even in series with the temp sender resistance to account for it.....but nnnnoooo! It would be intermittent. Once I squoze the receptacle down a wee bit (I had to remove it from the housing, squeeze it down, and re-insert into the housing) Poof! It worked perfectly. So you getting both sides brand spanking new was really the best decision. Regarding the oil pan, all's I can say is that has the same effed up complexity of 60s British bikes, I assure you! But you did well, gave it loving attention to detail, and the discussion regarding manufacturing those aluminum pigs was very enlightening. It was a great video, once again Wes! I drove a 6.0 for 11 years. The 2 things that always gave me difficulty keeping it running and preventing it starting were the High Pressure Oil Switch and the EGR valve. The EGR valves on those fail open a lot. I work for a company that had a dozen ambulances with the 6.0 and they were always dying on the road from the EGR failing open. The High Pressure Oil switch was on the passenger side valve cover from 2005 and up. It is behind the turbo 2004 and earlier. The switch itself was fine. For 5 years I dealt with the engine running rough periodically and also not starting. The dealer failed multiple times to figure it out. I found the spade plug connecting to the high pressure oil switch was put on the side of the lug rather than on the lug. As it aged the heat loosened the insulator around the plug which allowed it to wiggle around lose connection or have a poor connection. The failed EGR valve is easy to diagnose. The exhaust will billow dark grey smoke until the EGR finally closes. I believe it is an electrical issue with those more than a mechanical issue. I tried a Ford replacement EGR and 2 aftermarket replacements then I simply unplugged it. I also found half of the fuses in my fuse panel were put aside of the lugs rather than in them. A tip, 2004 and earlier engines made for the northern half of the country came with a block heater and Ford hid the cable behind the front bumper. 2005 and up had the block heater but no cable. I got a brand new Ford part cable for $12 plus shipping on Ebay and put it in myself. The dealer wanted $125 for the cable and $100 to put it in.

As always love the content Wes. I've had a pair of keen shoes that I use at work and they're probably the most comfortable shoe I've worn for walking around whether it be concrete floors or outside adventures. I've had my pair of shoes since January and they're holding up fantastic

I’ve had a strict personal policy since about 2015 that I WILL NOT touch a 6.0 power stroke and I’ve been much happier since I made that choice. It seems as though no matter what you do or how well you do it…there will be another problem next week or next month. Noooooo thank you

how much blow by does that thing have? i have had that issue with multiple vehicles, you replace one seal, and the next weakest starts to leak, you end up chasing all the seals and gaskets around the engine...

Crank sensor polarity does matter. The ECM would miscount the index tooth and cause crank tooth counting errors. Sometimes they won't even run if polarity is backwards. You got yours correct because in your waveform the missing tooth slope is rising.

those 6.0's will always leak.. Yeah mine sometimes is difficult to start, never could pinpoint the issue. Just turn the key off and back on to start..Great video Wes..

I am a New England Carpenter/GC and I work outside all year long, the best, most comfy, and durable work shoes, walking around shoes, and running shoes I have ever found are Skechers. They outlast every other shoe I have ever tried, and I've tried just about every work boot/shoe there is, Timberland, Red Wings, Herman Survivors, Chippewa, you name it I've tried them, Carolina Boots seem to last the longest, but none of them outlast the Skechers, or are remotely as comfortable. I get 2-3 years out of a pair, and I wear them every day for work, demo, framing, you name it we do it. My walking around pair lasts 3-4 years. usually between $65-85 depending on sales. Best longest lasting shoes I have ever found. Try a pair, you will thank me later!!

Ended up channeling my inner Wes today. Have an Allis Chalmers 175 that came into the shop with a complaint that it jumps out of high gear going down the road. After tearing it apart and making my shop as you say "Look like a Bangladesh ship breaking yard." found ALL the gears on the main shaft were actually shot. Also he wondered if I would replace the axle seals while I was there. Parts are ordered for the transmission. Have the axle seals already so thought I'd get that done. Definitely has had water in there at some point. All the bearings are shot, so have to call the customer and tell him he needs another $300 in parts plus the labor to re-shim the bearings. Good grief! These armchair mechanics on here that comment on the things you aren't doing right need to go and just keep watching their hero Scotty Kilmer!

When it comes to 6.0's starting/idling/surging issues, the ICP, IPR, and EBP sensors are all a good start. Replacing the pig tails at the same time is always a good idea. Another topic that doesn't get talked about enough is the oem fuel pumps are kind of garbage. They like to die out under load (dynamic pressure) even fresh from the factory for some. Some how these are problems that many suffer from and aren't getting codes related to them. Obviously their high pressure oil system has issues as well but feel like they often are a result of other issues or bad quality replacement parts.
