Wonderful video. I watched with intense interest. I am incubating a few chicken eggs. It is day 16 and they are all sinkers. The float test does not work very well when the eggs are in the bottom of the glass. Sinking eggs must mean that the air sack is not large enough. Hi, I have done this before with king quail eggs, because they are really hard to candle and it works. I have a new incubator and most of the eggs are floating, which is great, but not much movement and they don't seem to be floating that high. I am a little worried that the incubator wasn't doing its job right. Today is the 11th day and they hatch on the 16th day. Should I leave them a little longer to see if the air pocket gets bigger? Should I throw the ones that sink out? What would recommend I do?
@charliesweb1k10 жыл бұрын
the one's that sink have no air pockets and no baby will live even if it starts to grow it will die off soon. the one's that float and just barly floot are okay. so give them some more time and they should be okay, also they move a lot aroung the last week before hatching and they barly move 2 weeks before hatching. I candle when I know I have 7 days left to go :) good luck

@charliesweb1k3 жыл бұрын
Those eggs are about the same 100° for temperature and 40% to 45% humidity. Egg handling in the water is for eggs that you cannot use a light and that’s usually the last five days. At seven days old it only has a tiny bit of veins developing it won’t move in the water at all. Only float eggs you cannot candle.
@VivaMarie3 жыл бұрын
@@charliesweb1k oh, thank you so much! Knowing that it's probably not suppose to wiggle makes me so relieved 😂 one last question, how come I can't both float & candle the eggs? (Not at the same time of course)
@charliesweb1k3 жыл бұрын
@@VivaMarie I always candle my eggs with my iPhone light. But when it’s so solid I can’t see inside I can’t tell if the baby is dead or alive. So that’s when I float the egg in the water and if it wiggles it’s alive if it sinks to the bottom it has no baby in it which means you never canceled it with the iPhone in the first place. If it floats sideways and wiggles really hard on its own and then stops it could be a rotten egg full of gas so be careful. Smell any questionable eggs and if they stink they’re rotten. If it wiggles completely on its own as you seen On the video and it’s alive and ready to hatch within five days. I only candle eggs I cannot see with a flashlight or iPhone light. Hopefully that answers your question.
@VivaMarie3 жыл бұрын
@@charliesweb1k yes, it does, thank you! When you said you only tested it in water when you couldn't candle it, I just thought you meant that it would harm the eggs if I floated them and candled them both. one last question (I hope I'm not taking too much of your time), when I was writing so, so lightly an 'x' on my egg (it's a small egg, by the way, not a chicken egg), it cracked. It didn't break all the way through, though, only the way a pencil would make a small hole through paper. It happened on both of the eggs. Does this mean both of them are going to die? 😭
@charliesweb1k3 жыл бұрын
@@VivaMarie yes because you broke the bloom that protects the egg and when it has a crack it no longer keeps the proper temperature or moisture. Some people are successful using methods to cover it up but the percentage of viability is extremely low. Not all eggs are made equal when it comes to the shell so it made sense that yours broke. The bigger the egg the harder the shell to help holding all the yolk and whites. Also some breeds like water fowl have a thicker egg anyways. Tiny little eggs like that are thin shelled.Have a great weekend

you can't those you have to take out when you smell the eggs an it smells . this means the person who sold you eggs pick them up 2 days later and they now have hormones in them from the hen sitting on them. this is why you pick eggs up daily to prevent that since you don't want her to start incubating them. incubation starts 24 hours later, so eggs that start to smell take them out :)

Yes you can definitely do that and another thing you can do is smell the eggs if they stink awful those are rotting.
