Nice work...wish l had a distillery unit like that. Dad had one years ago, practically gave it away in a yard sale. Can't find them like that anymore...mostly plastic. Been looking for an older RV, chevy...about 2004 or2005. The kind that had like a chevy truck camper type. But RVs so expensive Can't afford them. I've never made it your way. I'm still single. Did you find your true love?..lol. if you find an RV in good shape, ld drive up & get it. Prefer buying from a private owner. Guess, we are still kicking, but not getting younger...lol. Would like to see your small town. Always looked so beautiful...take care, David...your friend Dianna

Hi Dinah, Long time no talk. I'm still single, and no true love in the Hollywood sense of the word, but I have so many warm people around me I wouldn't say I'm without love. I misplaced your phone number, so give me a call if you would like to catch up.

Boy this is the best video I have seen on the inside of one of these distillers and how it all works electrically. I have the same machine( lucked out finding you) but my machine will not even turn on. Hit the reset and nothing or moved the float. So if you have one of those electric continuity device a person can test it pretty quickly where the problem is. Thank you so much. BTW I have another one that I have used since this one broke down and it will not shut off ! auto feed for water and both the holding tank and heating chamber are totally full and running over.

So nice to hear someone else's logic to fix some old equipment that was made to be serviceable. Shame those days are just gone. Seems things are just going to the dogs. Keep up the great work Dave too.

Just started watching your videos and I want to tell you that I really like them. I repaired consumer electronics for 15 years but now I only do electronics as a hobby. It's actually more fun for me. But it's great seeing how you kept your business alive and well when I and most others could not. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work.

Thanks Mike, I mostly do home service calls at this time, and I'm rarely willing to work on TVs, but having a decent grasp of the fundamentals, I seem to keep busy most of the time. It's always fun to hear from another tech. All the best.

Hi Dave, I have had a Durastill for 20+ years and it just started leaking water at the bottom, so I pulled it all apart and yes you can still get all the parts needed directly from Durastill and other suppliers. BTW, your video was helpful in confirming the line voltage placement so thanks! you may agree that water and volts don't go well together so I do recommend the owner get with you to do a rebuild as the float valve on mine was iron plate that rusted and the new part is stainless. I replaced the upper float valve parts and the lower heater element brackets and did a deep clean of the inside. I was able to salvage most of the insulation blanket but that is also available.

Sadly my repair turned out to be a fail on this one, I replaced the circuit breaker which was justified, but the customer called back and told me the cord to the unit was overheating, so I'm assuming the heating element was also part of the problem and possibly shorted. I was warned by the rep at Durastill that replacing the heating element is quite a job, and I'm reluctant replace it after seeing all the corrosion, but if the customer brings it back I may consider it giving it a shot. I appreciate your info on this.

I've been wondering what people will do when things get worse and all the machinery starts wearing-out and breaking down. You may be a busy man with a long line forming outside.☺

The tough part is (at least for me)....how do you decide how much to charge !? I guess if I were hungry and repairing for a living it might be easier to determine. 🤔
@GrantsPassTVRepair Жыл бұрын
@@Stenn333 You so right about knowing what to charge without being to greedy or to generous. I have often undervalued my worth based on some early conditioning, I figure my time is worth at least 75 an hour, but I often end up making far less.

❤ A kindred soul after my own heart ! 🙂 My brother gave me a shirt that says on the front "Do you REALLY want to know what's wrong...?" .....and the back says "...or do you just want me to FIX it ?!" 😄🍷...nothing like the skills of observation and deductive reasoning. ✌️

Hi. Thanks for great video. I have the exact same model and the cooling fan (after of 2 years of being fine) shuts off randomly (stays off) while the boiling chamber keeps on boiling. Once the unit is off for a bit, if I turn it on, the fan runs as normal. Needless to say, there is concern that the heating element continues to heat while the fan shuts off. The fan seems to run fine until it shuts off. Any suggestions?
@GrantsPassTVRepair10 ай бұрын
I'm not sure what sensor turns the fan on and off, but on the unit I showed here, I later discovered it also had a burnt out heating element, and that was more than I cared to replace at this time.
@sidwalker69028 ай бұрын
I know I’m late to the video but, was that switch/circuit breaker an overload protector or just for thermal protection/control? Also what type oil did you use on that fan?
@00vTv005 ай бұрын
That durastill unit can leak from over-filling the tank, the steam pressure will push the water out through the float-lever seal, which is where the end rod connects to the heating element switch. Just do not fill higher than the float rod lever seal and all leaking will stop.

I plan to harvest my old compressor from the refrigerator. Has anyone tried to shut close the lines with the help of hand held hydraulic crimp tool before cutting the lines. Is it going to work? I don't have a proper evac system.
