Hi there . I got your replay. Yeah your video is good. I learned that Cars can used your wisdom of Electrolysis science since older drivers have problems with eye visions. I don't know know why so many people get this wrong. If you are using sodium chloride in the water then chloride ions are present. This means that you will get chlorine gas coming off the cathode and not ogygen gas! If you use sodium hydroxide then you will definately get pure oxygen gas. Try it. I have done this many times before.
@mikekelso6212 Жыл бұрын
thank you for clarifying this mistake in the video. It's frustrating how many "Chemistry" videos do not know basic chemistry. Anyone who tries this can smell the gas bubbling off and will know pretty fast that it is Chlorine. (be careful, everyone)

Sir, u hv used nacl then why u showed the reaction of water and h2so4......? And if u r using nacl then h2 and cl2 gases will be liberated?
@prasadguy2 жыл бұрын
Salt is used because the water was a poor conductor of electricity, so then it can't conduct electricity. NaCl helps it to conduct electricity. And he showed the reaction of H (hydrogen) and O (oxygen) not water and h2so4. Because water is H2O, it contains hydrogen and oxygen only. He have used salt or NaCl only because the electricity or the electrons can pass freely. But this was all about water (H2O) only. Please understand what is electrolysis and electric conductivity first.

Won’t that sulphuric acid also breakdown into hydride and sulphate ions? Won’t they also gather at the electrodes?
@MakeMeScientific2 жыл бұрын
During the process of electrolysis of water, dilute sulphuric acid splits into when electricity is passed through the dilute sulfuric acid solution. The electrolyte is dilute sulfuric acid (= acidified water) which, during electrolysis is split into hydrogen and oxygen gases.
