If you open the top it can sometimes help you get the water through, just make sure you’re not covering the hole or it will do nothing.

I've been using mine for about two years now, changed the filter after 1 year. Here we are two dozen hikes and camping trips later and never had problems drinking from any water source with this. Definitely helps on saving weight in the backpack not having to carry too much water.

The filter is good for 300 presses. You can tell if it's time to change when it comes to a point where you start having a hard time pressing it down fully.

If its clear looking running water you most likely wont need it, but you can filter the water with this bottle to take out big particles then boil it to kill bacteria

While it does look to be a good filter, it has the one flaw of many filters I try to avoid. The filter. It's only good for so many uses, then has to be replaced. The filter I'm fond of is the hydroblu filter. It uses micro fibers to filter, and with back flushing and care, will easily last 100,000 gallons. With proper flushing you could potentially make them last forever. These are only good for 300 bottles. What's that like 10, 20 gallons max? That's terrible. The only thing they have the hydronlu beat on is they can filter chemicals, which the hydroblu cannot. Overall, I'll take longevity over that anyway. Just don't top off from oily looking muck ponds, stick to clear running water and you'll manage fine.

Maybe a dumb question but can it filter toilet water after you used it? Reason I asked is I saw in your photo that it filters out viruses. Bacteria too? But if an animal dies in the water upstream from you and you drink the water, you're going to get sick. That why some people boil it or others add a pill or two.

Wanna make this even better put the water in then take it to your fire and boil it then press it through the filter then you've killed everything in it and then removed any particles left in the water it also makes the filters last longer because it's much easier to filter out larger objects than it is microbes

Look into p&g water purification packets. They are really underrated in the outdoors community, they are mostly for 3rd world country’s and natural disaster relief much like the “life straw” which I WOULD recommend except sawyer made a similar one that I’ve heard is better quality, but also life straw made a metal version so 🤷🏻‍♂️ but between those two for backups and this bottles filter AND always be able to boil water. That’s almost too much but is all light and cheap. If you hike with a bladder there are plenty of inline filters you can attach to the tube also but I wouldn’t like the reduced flow personally Also the p&g packets don’t add taste to the water

Buy a sawyer squeeze filter for 20 bucks. Can filter 100,000 gallons of water before needing replaced and MUCH smaller.

I agree. Buy the sawyer as a backup because it’s small enough throw anywhere and you can use the evernew bags in conjunction. This water bottle filter is the tier 1 right now because it’s ability to get more bad stuff out than the squeeze, it’s own durable bottle that’s easy to locate, one thing that does it all that you can carry in one piece.

Haven't tried the Ultra press. Been running the Geo press for over a year. It's been the best filtration system I've ever seen. I've beat it up every weekend since I've gotten it. Its hardy and reliable. After a while the O ring leaks then replace the filter. Its frozen being strapped to my sled and it's still reliable when thawed off. Highly recomend this bottle. It is the best.

Although I really like the Grayl, its basically just a french press coffee maker. It is not worth $90 for 38 gallons of water (thats like $2.36 a gallon) Plus I didnt see they sold any extra filters when I looked. An intelligent person can make something pretty awesome from off the shelf parts. It might not fit in a day pack but Im not buggin out anywhere or drinking out of mosquito ponds. So it would just be a novelty and thats worth maybe $30 to me. 😊 👍
