I have the same whirlpool water heater and just changed the upper Thermostat after watching your video. Seems to be working. I’ll know better when I shower tonight😂 Thank you!👍

Straight forward info. Thank you this will help even though my heater is 12 years old.

Thank you for your support! As long as the tank isn’t leaking, you should be able to get a few more years out of it.

Thanks for this video, well done. Just to confirm most times its a thermostat problem and not a heater element problem?

Breaker started tripping, so I had an electrician run tests on the water heater. After running the tests on the upper/lower elements and thermostats, only the lower thermostat showed as failed. I replaced it, but the breaker tripped again after about 6 minutes. While the tank was still drained, I replaced the lower element, even though the one in the tank looked and tested good, and also replaced the anode rod. Filled up the tank and the breaker tripped again after 5-6 minutes. Shall I just go ahead and replace the upper thermostat and element, or could there be a problem someplace else?
@jakesterphillips890410 ай бұрын
Depends, did you make sure the tank was filled before turning the breaker and push fuse? Very important to get the tank filled first before giving it power.
@nyrainman48979 ай бұрын
@@jakesterphillips8904Yes, everything was done correctly. I eventually found out that the breaker had a loose wire, which was arcing causing the breaker to overheat and trip. It's all fixed, but what a fiasco in tracing down the actual problem.

Thanks guys. Really hard water at my place so I replace elements about every other year. Usually the bottom. I have a thermostat so i figured lets do it too.
@SkyManagement3 жыл бұрын
No problem :) Yeah, it almost always seems to be the bottom element that goes out.

@@SkyManagement I bought a 5500 W power element. I’m getting ready to return it for a couple new 4500 watt elements which is what I’m supposed to use. is it safe to use a 5500 W element in one position or the other
@SkyManagement3 жыл бұрын
I would probably stick with the same watt that came out of the unit. I don’t think it would matter. But, I’m not a certified electrician... so I’d play it safe. Lol.

@@SkyManagement thanks. I appreciate it. I’m on my way to Menards right now. I’m going to replace both heating units even though only one of them is bad. The other is coated with water deposits flaky white calcium deposits. We have excessive hard water which is supplied through the ground well. Maybe a water softener in the future but not in the cards right now. Last fall I vacuumed out 2 inches of built up white flakes.

How would I replace the clip ?
@juanramos65733 жыл бұрын
I replace 30 gal single water heater heating element and thermostat. 240V reading at all points all the way to and including heating element. Still not working. What else should I check?
@SkyManagement3 жыл бұрын
Well. I’m at a loss there... if you have power and thermostat works... and you have power to the element ... and it comes on and you still don’t have hot water...? Then I would guess it’s time for a new water heater or your cold and hot water lines got mixed up somehow?
@SkyManagement3 жыл бұрын
Test the ohms on the element. With the power off, test the screws on the back of the element. The ohms reading should be between 9-1. If it’s way higher or lower than that. Then maybe the new element was bad to start with.

You should make an inverted pee trap for heat and cold and get rid of the stupid heat trap they used for it... The galvanized will rust and restrict anything that flow in it.... the pee trap is 100% efficient than the factory installed...

I'm a single woman doing this myself how do I turn electric off to hot water heater
@SkyManagement2 жыл бұрын
The easiest way is to turn off the breaker that leads to the hot water heater. sometimes there is a power shutoff right next to the water heater, but to be safe, you can turn off the breaker in the house breaker box. If you are unsure which breaker it is, you can turn off all of them. (or the "main")
