*This takes me back to many cell cycles ago where I was purchasing fine jewelry for my fellow pseudocoelomate. The Acariformes behind the counter really tried to sell me his "secret crystals", calling them the "globules of love". Needless to say, I took him up on the offer, but for some reason, couldn't for the Mastax in me get rid of them. They stuck to everything and everycell nearby! Well, on a brighter note, I did become a lot more popular with the lady mites.*

I read "Water Mites" as "Walter Mites", which has mite rhyme with white. Which means if I can have a Water Mite as a pet, I'd name it Walter Mite.
@Vistico932 жыл бұрын
This video is reminding me how it's been told (by this channel and others) how viscous water is to creatures so small. These mites are still small enough to still endure water's syrupiness while just large enough to make this viscousness visible in the particles they're moving around only for those particles to practically return to their starting position

The water flea or whatever it was zooming by around 2:00 was hilarious. These water fleas are on the larger side and it even looks like they have a light reflection off of their bodies between that and it looks like the fleas are being pinned by the cover of the slide or something when they are sitting still. They almost look enourmous with those things in mind but Hank's footage at end seems to return them to their tiny size.

Your tangent on fish reminded me of a video by a youtuber called "The Dave". He makes HD videos on aquarium fish. I believe it was his video on largemouth bass where a very large water mite swam across the screen. The bass looked at it but turned away. I thought that was strange. Largemouth bass aren't known for turning down food. So there is something to that idea.

From a phylogenetic perspective its actually a pretty good insight as it appears ticks are more closely related to mites than the other macroscopic arachnids. Of course in the phylogenetic context mites are more or less paraphyletic as in non mite arachnids probably descend from mite like ancestors at some point during the Cambrian and or early Ordovician.
