You can read the whole story of this painting on my BLOG at andywalkerart....
and I've put a list of my materials there as well. There's much more info there on the background to this particular painting.
What is necessary, and what is unnecessary? What needs to speak in your painting?
In this demo painted with water-mixable oil paints I want to show you how I reduce the elements in the composition down to focus on the centre of interest. This is the story I want to tell my viewers.
Simply put, this means identifying what it is that caught your eye. Was it the decoration on a piece of pottery, the colours of roses, the shape of a building, or the light and shadows on the road? In every scene there is a reason why you want to record it in paint. It might be something fleeting - like clouds scudding across the sky. Or it may be eternal - like the shape of a mountain ridge.
This is the Necessary which needs to be painted. Everything else becomes Less Necessary or even Completely Unnecessary. It's your decision what to put in and what to leave out, what to enhance and what to subdue.
I hop that this video will help you along that path of simplification in both what you are painting, how you are doing it, and why.
