First time I've ever been able to do it. Didn't last long, but good enough to count.

I'm 57 and just waterskied for the first time. Was also my wife's first time driving the boat towing someone. She's a very nervous boat driver usually. I got up about the 5th or 6th try on old skis. Then skied until my arms got tired (a mile or two) I just bought some new wider ones (obrien vortex) so I can try slalom tomorrow. Couldn't drop a ski without falling on the old skis. My tips would be: go to pilates if you have no core strength. Don't stand too fast. Wear a noseplug as you might get a facefull of water the first few attempts. Snug up the bindings so you have control (i had them too loose at first) Have a powerful boat (our 18' with v6 i/o perfect). Rest a lot. If you can't get up today... try again tomorrow.. sleeping on it allows your brain and muscles to have a little talk. Go when the water is glass. Early morning good usually. And be safe... as a drill before skiing, my wife drove and I would toss a ski out.. she'd practice circling back. That's all we did first day. Start on a lake with no other boat traffic. Use a spotter and a ski mirror. 22mph seems to be comfy for a beginner adult

Been wanting to get into the sport myself for some time. Wish I could find a friend here in Georgia who water skis, but I don't...

Bummer, but there has to be someone in GA to ski with.

Yeah about this video. So I waterskied as a child and a teenager. But unfortunately 30 years later behind my own new boat I couldn't get up. I knew about the knees and arms but no joy. Sometimes my legs split, sometimes I dove over my skies and other times the waterresistance tore the handle out of my hands. So I guess I'm lucky I kept riding bikes.

Keep trying. I'm 57 and ski'd for first time. got up 5th or 6th try. Going to pilates classes really helps .. having core muscles saves the back strain

Diving over means stood up too fast... come up gradual. Handle rip means standing up too slow. Can brace arms against legs on start too to help.

BS it is not that easy. I tried over and over in my 20s. I was coached exactly the same way. My friends took me out again and again. All I did was face plant in the water and get bashed by the skis. My attempts ended one weekend with both my arms dislocated and torn supraspinatus tendons.. .
