After plowing for two days and not getting up, I was ready to give up. Resorting to this video made all the difference. I immediately got up the next time I tried. After that again and again, the wake board launch was no longer an issue. Thank you for your great advice Shaun! What a fun sport!

This video got a 50 year old dad bod wake boarding in two tries, every time I started to plow water, I would follow his tip amd trim board back under water and gradually worked my way back to surface. Without this video, it never would have work because I was going to treat it like water skiing which would have been all wrong. Great job on this video!!! Thank you so much!

This is my new go to video to make people watch before going out. I've had a hard time explaining the "wing" concept to new riders. I can usually get lighter riders and girls up pretty easy, but it's the bigger, stronger guys that struggle trying to muscle it up. I finally tried this slow start method to get the board under him before accelerating and was able to get it to click for him.

These instructional videos are absolutely golden! We should be paying you to make these! I like how you give the dry-land instruction with the small video inserts, and the same instructions from the water perspective. There is nothing else like this video on the web. Well done! I've had a few people try and try to get up on a wakeboard without success, even after I exhausted all of my tips. Once you get up, it's mind-blowing how easy it is. Some people just can't get the concept of letting the board be like a wing. It's so frustrating because I just want them to experience the fun too! The thought and quality of your video is ridic. Your video even shows the board under water with the proper angle! Nice! I'll be showing this video to any new riders from now on.

The best tip's and learning video ever!!!! Long time ago, I used to water ski. The key then was to have the ski tip outside the water always; with the Wakeboard I tried to do the same. The plow was so hard impossible to resist (I weight 220; strong) never could go out with the wakeboard. Yesturday, in my first try I was out like nothing; so easy, so easy the wing was the key for me!

I haven't tried wakeboarding since going on my friend's family's boat as a kid. I was athletic, but I NEVER got up because I must have been pushing too hard against the board (it was vertical) and the rope would eventually yank me forward and out of my hands like my shoulder was about to pop out (basically the opposite of your tips in the vid😅). I can't wait to go to this cable wakeboarding place down the road tomorrow and give it a go. I love snowboarding and seeing you shred a bit at the end made me even more excited. First time “wake boarder” here… I am in my sixties, and I wanted to give wake board a try with my son ( 14 years old) using our 2021 BRP Sea Doo wake! We didn’t know much about wake boarding so we decided to watch this video that we found here on KZbin. Well, believe it or not but we applied the advices Shaun is showing in this Video and we just love the experience… we both were up and running on the board in a snap! Shaun is really a good coach and his explanations are right to the point! If newcomers to the sport don’t want to loose time and energy trying over and over without much success, I really recommend watching this video! Great job Shaun for everything, the advices, the Video montage and the sound is clear… well done!!! 👍👍

We were out at the lake today and two families were trying to wake board for the first time. I have always been a skier, never tried a wake board. They asked if we knew what to do. So I went to the camper, got my iPad, found your video, walked out in the water to the wake boarder, told him to watch, and away he went, along with every other member of their family. I did not know them, but I could tell they had never even seen a wake boarder (?) so I figured this had to help. They now have one happy family. From age 12 to 16

Perfect tips! I've always found that demonstrating these elements to a beginner before they put the board on really helps too. I get them sitting in the water, feet on the edge of the platform, then pass them the handle. This way, you can pull them out of the water with the handle, and they will see for themselves when they stay in a ball you can pull them up with two fingers. I then get them to straighten their legs and demonstrate how immensely this increases the force on the handle.

I'm 50 years old and my boys and I went to OWC a couple weeks ago while on a Disney trip with and we all were easily able to get off the dock on the standard cable and fast cable with the standard rental boards (with fins). Got slider boards and had fun on the standard cable hitting the features. Best part of my vacation!! Back to Houston, found my local cable park, and can't get off the dock -- feels very fast. Love to see one of your instructional videos on getting off the dock - (whether sitting or standing) whatever you recommend for an old duffer about 5' 11", 200 lbs.

Thanks man, the plowing matter ... got that now and is also a safety matter, when I kept hanging too much and the power overwhelmed (hence too much power also) my fingers got jammed between the handle and the board big time. So, when using the board as a wing and keep the line clear away off the board and glide up like a wing, got up with normal stress on the body. After a few runs, knowing the body / feet position that works (safely), then more accelaration helped also. Thanks man. Still much to learn but that is what it makes fun for this 48 year dude. Wow..great tips..since this was so informative, have you considered adding something for slalom deepwater starts for intermediate freestyle..looking to advance with narrower more advanced ski..also , can u talk about pylon height for best results. Thanks..well done.

Hoping to connect w a skier in the near future to some slalom how to's so thanks for the question. And tie off height can help but isn't more important than technique. Good technique but tied low will be easy and bad technique, i.e. plowing when getting up, but tied high will still be super hard. Could be a good video

This was super helpful! Thank you! Just tried my first time wake boarding today & I was letting the rope get too far forward & was too focused on not letting the board go under water!

Thanks for making the video.. Dad bod here been plowing for awhile very unsuccessfully and cannot wait to give it a try the right way. Do you have a video on wakeboard/size suggestions? 205 lb dad here and new to all this. Again thanks for sharing

Good tips Shaun. I find it much easier to get up when the board has a chance to plane up to the surface first, versus trying to muscle it up. This typically happens for me on occasion when I’m not trying too hard. Definitely will be incorporating this for myself and when helping my granddaughter on her board.

I'm 50+ and enjoy all kinds of fun adrenaline activities like this. I had opportunity to wakeboard yesterday and did not go well getting up. I KZbin'd how to get up and found this. On 2nd attempt going slow like he does in vid and with Wing technique he shares, I got up!! Thank You!! ✌️😀

I’m not liking this because it’s a good lesson but more so the strength it takes to be able to do what you did here! My mind is blown.

Thanks Strech! It's actually way less strength/work, and more relaxing while getting the board to fly under water is what most people are missing.

Really like your videos and it helped me a lot to get out of the water on the wakeboard . So, started wakeboarding at 40 (January this year - Southern Hemisphere summer started again now) and it’s been tough but I am getting there. I have a question and I’ve been trying to get answers on the internet, but I thought I’d give it a shot in the comments section… Being a 40 year old first time wakeboarder has its challenges, and being more on the + size weight isn’t doing me any favours. I am struggling to get the bindings on in the water, so my question is, can I use kitesurfing straps on my wakeboard as I am not really doing anything crazy on the water. I don’t want to spend the money to find out that it’s a bust by not getting up at all.. The straps would make it so much easier to get my feet on the board and go..
@Shaun.Murray18 күн бұрын
Good question Alex. I have a hard time putting bindings on in the water too for what it's worth. Do you have a boat with a platform or a boat that allows you to put them on somewhere inside the boat and can then can go overboard w the bindings and board already on.
@alexpb917 күн бұрын
@@Shaun.Murray If I show you a picture of my boat you will probably laugh and ask how I even get up behind that boat. No platform (1971 Outboard). We normally go into the water from the shore, put the wakeboard on when knee deep in the water and swim a bit deeper into the water... A idea for a next video, seeing that you've done almost every flat surface known to mankind on the water, put some kiteboard bindings on a wakeboard and rip.. Watching your videos, it should be a walk in the park, but I'd like to hear what you think about it.

Amazing way of explaining! I’ve been trying to get up on a wakeboard for 20+ years (I’m a skier) with no success. After watching this video on our boat I got up first time! The instructions for drivers are great too, we were trying to start off too fast.

Had a few tries on a company event and couldn't get up, barely got a briefing and the lake was a bit choppy, you clearly show that indeed a good briefing makes a difference
