To make it a practical vessel, would it work to form the art over a vase? Once it is dry and the plastic removed, could it be glued to the exterior of the vase, then sprayed with a water resistant acrylic so it would be cleaned? Or maybe used as the cover of the vase so the art can be removed and the vase cleaned?

Hi. Yes that sounds like a lovely idea. Especially if it's removable.

You can dip or paint it with a product called “Stiffy”. It is designed specifically for stiffening fabric.

@@classiccraftstudio you could also just add water to pva glue. That's what I have done in the past with cloth-mache, on cotton and on silk. works really well. I have yet to try the water soluble stuff: so many possibilities.

@@Olhamo Hi. Yes you're right, the pva glue and water mix works really well on fabrics, it's a great technique that I've covered in some of my other tutorials. Water soluble fabric is for creating thread lace effects, so it works in a different way. Both are great for creating different effects with fibers art. Thanks for your comment.

What was the reason for the gap at the end of the first sculpture? I didn't understand the gap - and then you put a stitch in it. Could you not sew a stitxh on it when at the machine?

Hi. There needs to be a gap so that you can mold it into a bowl shape. If there are solid lines of stitching then it will remain a flat circle and if you try and mold it over something you will get warping and ridges instead of a curved bowl shape with smooth sides. I hope this makes sense, if not, please let me know.

Thank you. Yes, a fabric stiffener like Stiffy works well. A mixture of woodglue or PVA glue and water also works well, but you have to be careful how much glue you use or it can leave a residue, and this is only obvious after it has dried. I have also had this residue problem using Stiffy, which is why i prefer using the hair spray. I recently tried liquid starch for the first time and that also works really well. But of course the best is to just dip the item in water and slowly dissolve the water soluble fabric.

In this video i also have flowers that i made with the water soluble fabric and these i left quite a bit of the glue from the fabric in the fibers, they were extremely sticky while the were drying., and they are very stiff. So i guess it's just up to the look and feel that you want, and playing around with what you have on hand until your item feels right. Happy experimenting. Cheers, Rebecca
