A relatively cheap DIY fix and easy modification to protect the low slung fresh water tank mounted under the rear of the Hymer ML-T580.

It sounds for me as a malfunction design from the Hymer to place this Tank in such a lower position. I am wondering if there is a possibility to replace this tank on the opposite side of the diesel tank, and in this case the vehicle will be more balanced and have a better clearance in the back. Good work and hopefully you will never have such damage another time. Thank you for sharing this video with us

With normal use on campsites it’s not a serious problem. If loaded up with luggage on a long tour with a full fuel tank it’s obviously lower. We frequently need to travel with lots of water to wild camp spots but the manufacturer says only travel with the water tank 20% full which is not helpful. The full tank is heavy and what makes things even worse but what’s the point of having off grid power etc for 10 days if you can only fill up with a days worth of water!

@@AndySanderson Hello Andy, I am always asking my self about the selling slogan of big companies who produce such a vehicle for off grid use and promote that it can be used for a longer period. Another Big joke of the company their electrical off grid system which supposed to last for around 10 days. It is really a bitty that such small failures still happening despite the fact that customers are producing endless videos about such construction problems. I wish you all joy modifying your vehicle in the future.

Certainly, it is a design flaw from the manufacturer. Sits too low, in my opinion. That design would be more suited to the 4x4 version, which is considerably higher and wouldn't present a problem in normal use.

Still even for the 4x4 it is very low located hence a 4x4 drive need more clearance in the back all the time
