A Venturi a norrowing of diameter within a pipe, as the diameter decreases the velocity increases, the pressure decreases. The smaller standing pipe on your device takes advantage of the pressure decreas allowing air to be sucked in. The ring in the ice is formed when the water has even a small back eddy. The movement of the rotatingwater allows the inner ring to freeze later than the regular flow. We have Possums that come around for food. Our cats avoid them and vice versa. My wife puts water on the back porch every day. One Feral Cat would come iside in the very cold weather. He ould just get on a kitchen chair and spend the night. We call him Howard, because he looks like a Howard.

Thank you! The wild friends have to kow that you are a soft touch, keep it up my friend. I have deer who sleep in the horse hay and stay within a very few feet while I feed. Guess they appreciate the three way with molasses I dole out when it is really cold. Animals require more water when it is cold as it helps them generate body temps.

Chigger, I run four-barrel carburetors on my Chevy 350s. I know what a Venturi is. Besides being a Pontiac Nova. And I'm still shaking my head laughing at you. Of all people, Mister Outdoors himself. And you get poison ivy on your tallywhacker. I showed that video to my brother and the moment he spotted at poison ivy vine on the tree he said oh no he didn't. Sorry to laugh at your misfortune. But damn it it's funny, and even funnier when you've done it yourself.

Beau It's like you've been reading my mind. I have a small pond a little larger than yours, and I have the same problem you cited. If we don't get rain in late fall to top it off before we get a hard freeze and it freezes over, I loose all of the larger fish. The sunfish seem to fare better, but with the extended cold spell I'm guessing that I'm going to loose all of the fish this year. In summary, Heck Yes please do a video on your setup.
