Love they way Waterborne performs. Prefer the front progressive "squishy" feeling of the bushing over my "snappy" spring based systems(Slide, Swelltech, Meraki, CX, C7, Smoothstar). The rail adapter completes the best feeling rear, max lean without impacting turn. Tip that helps me: separate both front and rear in half before mounting trucks. Single pivot nut up front, 2 nuts on the rail adapter. Set aside the thrust bearing and bushings. All 10-32 hardware becomes non-fiddly. Mount deckside half to the deck, trucks to streetside.. then its only joining halves, replace thrust bearing and bushings and 3 nuts to put them back together. Much faster than 16 hard to reach fasteners. Sadly I have retired my Waterborne system due to noise. The front "groans" not a big deal, but the rear rail adapter "clunk that makes you check for loose hardware on every side walk crack" is a deal breaker. Tried several methods to bandaid it but all wear out after a few sessions. Feel the metal to metal design needs improvement. Know you said you prefer the riser, but you have many miles on a rail adapter or develop the "clunk" yet? Looking forward to the carbon fiber model re-visit, I remember you had harsh words for them previously.

Videos of this guy are pure quality: he doesn’t share stupid opinions based on “what he likes”, but a point of view based on “surf-skate check”. Excellent work man!

Just slapped this adapter onto my 40 inch longboard and Boom! A cheap way to convert your longboard into a surf skate and get that chilled drawn out flowy feel especially down mellow down hills. I would say it's the closest feeling to my 9'6 single fin surf longboard. Perfect addition to my quiver of Carvers. For me the best result and utilization of the Waterborne is on a long deck. It's also a great work out for the abs as you have to really work your core when pumping for speed. Just about to chuck on 75mm 80a Orangatang In Heat to see how they go. I will keep you posted👍

Right on! Stoked that you got your Adapters to liven up your longboard! With the bigger wheels it is sure to be a long distance pumping machine!

sooo good..once you get the bigger In Heat wheels going it rolls like a Cadillac and eats the cracks, pebbles and debris for breakfast lol..slick..perfect combo I reckon for a Longer deck...love them on my Proteus Carson c7 too!

Great review! I agree with your pro's and con's re: the completes. Based upon my own experience (using the Waterborne Pisces), I would recommend trying out the models if possible before you consider buying one. In my experience, I found that the flex in the carbon deck negatively affected speedflow and the overall weight of the complete affected manoeuvres. Happy surfskating people! x

This is such a good and comprehensive review. Appreciate all parties involved. Good to know about the wood riser pads.

Tried many combinations in the quest for a fun easy to pump cruiser with fast top end speed for medium to long flowy trips. Chuck a loosened up Waterborne surf adaptor onto a deck with a bit of flex that is 33-35 inches and a 24 inch wheelbase inside holes. (I use 180mm rkp longboard trucks front and back. Back truck has angled riser pad). 70mm 80a or 78a Surfskate Love are nice for this setup. I think the longer wheelbase without going too long is the key for this adapter for getting up to a fast top speed quickly and not having to work too hard with the pumping imo. Such a nice feeling when you hit top speed and then settle into a nice flowy carve. 75mm wheels is worth trying aswell. An expectional piece of engineering.

Just put Orangatang Caguama Blue 85Mm 77A on this set up and it has taken it to a new level ;)..soo fast and smooth!

Only thing I'd like to add is that changing rail adapter bushings and truck bushings can fill in the gap between the riser pads vs the rail adapter. This area is grey, not so black and white. For example, I use Venom Barrel SHR Bushings for rail adapter(88s and 91s) and Riptide Krank and Canons in Paris trucks. This has less lean(can set it exactly as desired) but much more rebound and speed than the softer, stock setup. This customizing with bushings goes on and on......as some may use other combinations like Orangatang Knuckles, Bones hard, etc. Being the owner of 4 Waterborne adapters, 2 Carvers(C5 and Cx) I find Waterborne is the best for a smooth ride(much smoother with rail adapter) on long distance flat cruises and slight inclines with fast speed. But, in bowls, I turn to Carver CX with my Yago Dora.

Kent's absolutely correct: the adapter rail isn't an all or nothing proposition, all components can be dialed in to anyone's preference. Street skating since the 70s, got into longboarding around 2012. Even then the skate elite were running hybrid bushing setups, base plate angles, and even axle widths. I chose the Waterborne front adapter as my first Surf Skate setup, thanks to the advice of Steve & Billy from their respective reviews, just to get my feet wet so to speak. Now after a couple of weeks of riding, I'm ready to try the rail adapter which I'll certainly be dialing in since my 180 lb. weight would mercilessly crush the 83A stock durometers. Check out how Load of D dialed in his Sidewinder IIs, which has inspired me to breath some new life into my Sector 9 Pinnacle Lookout: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2PZeX2iZ9aEb7c

So I picked up an Aquilo and swapped the pivot cups (green riptide Indy's)/bushings (yellow riptide street APS) out, then removed the rubber stopper in the adapter. That sucker is sooooo much more agile and responsive now. That's def the way to ride it. Amazing system

I've been sharing this on the surfskate subreddit for a bit now. I'm beta testing the wb FIN w/the rail adapter. Toss some Riptide Krank Fatcones in that sucker, wide side board side, and it's 1000x better than any riser you can get. I can actually steer my wb setup with my back foot and the fatcones keep me super stable.

Fantastic review as usual! How do you feel about the height increase on this Waterborne system compared to typical surf skates? Hopefully I didn't miss that in your review.

Using a bushing to provide the reset force which brings back the front truck adapter to the neutral position might really help with longetivity - especially as compared to the YOW adapter. After going through several broken springs and axial bearing the aluminium casting of my YOW adapter shows more and more wear. Namely, at the contact area between the spring and the respective seats in the alumium castings. The respective contact area has been greased but after so many load cycles the harder steel just slowly works itself into the aluminium. With some tinkering I might get rid of the annoying clicking sound I have to suffer now because of this. So you pay for the snappier reset of the YOW adapter as compared to the Waterborne adapter with more maintenance and less durability. Furthermore, the roller based axial bearings of the Waterborne adapter are also more rugged. I should stop to pump up pretty steep hills, it is just killing the material. ;-)

Have you tried an aquilo? The springs are set up in a way that I think will outlive a yow, plus when you remove the rubber bump stops from inside the springs you get a ton of lean.

I love the waterborne asapters but my main issue is that after a little bit, in my case a few days, the rail adapter started to rattle a lot and I tried everything to fix it but it wouldn't work. For now I just took it off and am running the stock trucks on my board.

I swapped the pivot cups and bushings on my Slide and it's got so much lean now I had to tighten the front truck. Once you get the trash urethane swapped out on these boards they're totally different
