New waterbox! Outstanding… can’t wait to see the new setup. I just pulled my 40g breeder yesterday and started moving it to (I think) an Ehiem 47g Open rimless tank I got locally.

Jay; this is my final setup list to get my first tank started, let me know what you think: - Aqueon 29 gallon with Aqueon glass lid (sold separately) - Contractor Pea Gravel 5mm mixed with CaribSea River Gravel 2mm (cheaper pea gravel keeps cost down) - Hygger LED (programmable for planted tanks) - Eheim Jagger with Inkbird Temperature Controller - SunSun Cannister HOB with Sponge + K1 Bio Media (smaller and easier to maintain than full size canister, since there's no long tubes) - SOBO Battery Air Pump with Aquarium Co-Op Sponge Filter (up to 90 hours runtime on battery) - FritzZyme 7 and API Master Test Kit ( 8 weeks minimum tank cycle, I'm in no rush) I didn't list the plants, fertilizer, quarantine bucket and many other things I'll need. But I've planned out almost everything already and done loads of research. Thanks to your informative videos and many others...

Nice! Those Silvertips though looking baller! Snails in my experience are good but over feeding can bring more on. In my experience. The 40 looks excellent
@ThePlantedTankTV
@ThePlantedTankTV Жыл бұрын
There’s only a few fish in there right now and when I feed I put the smallest little pinch of food in. So I know I’m not over feeding. They had a ton of food once I killed all that algae and now it’s gone. I’ve always had these snails and my next build won’t have a single one. Ever. 😂

Question about the shelf you are using for your current aquarium. Are you using the particle board that it came with? How has it held up?

The only reason to buy them is that the dimensions match their aquariums so well. They are as cheap as it gets.Vinyl coated MDF (which we know is awful for water exposure) fastened with cam screws. Just like a cheap piece of IKEA furniture. They should cost about 25% of what they are being sold for.

@@ThePlantedTankTV There is nothing quite like it in what specific ways? The self leveling feet? What am I not seeing? I am a licensed contractor and was a handyman who assembled products for many years. I know cheap stuff when I see it. Are they made from solid wood or MDF?

*QUESTION:* I have very hard tap water - I do use a conditioner to remove chlorine etc. but water stays fairly hard as my fish breeds are all suited to hard water conditions... All my aquariums use gravel only & are fully planted with root feeding plants. All are fairly fully stocked. I use plant tabs only and not very often= I am finding that the hard water and fish waste, for the most part, are sustaining my plants (sure they don't "flourish" but do grow -slowly) to the point that I can move the new growth to other locations or other tanks... I have only had one fish ever die and that was due to stress (small young female & large aggressive older male) I have also never had an issue with each tank having the same conditions (test strips are identical even though people tell me that is near impossible) to the point that I have never had issues moving fish from tank to tank as they spawn (trying to keep male to female ratios comfortable for them). I would like to hear your thoughts on how well fish waste, in hard water, can sustain plants without (or with very little) fertilizer dosing (and only gravel for substrate) I moved to a new apartment, set up and no real issues (as above info) for a year. (with new fry on a monthly basis) Am I dreaming, or do I have a lucky horseshoe ? (seems too good to be true) Anyway = just wondering (and would greatly appreciate) your thoughts on this. THANX !

Tank looks nice not too wild, there's certain fishes that eats snails if you want to get rid of them I one had a problem like that where I bought eco complete soil when I was starting in the hobby at first i spotted 2 or 3 after a while there were lots of them and i couldn't get rid of them fast enough it took my a while I wish I had known about those snail eating fish back then

Put a piece of cucumber on a fork and hang it inside, all the snails will cling to it. After that you just take it out.
