Actually, I like both. I used to try my hand at watercolor years ago and I just started again about a month ago and I’m having some great results but I am far from ever mastering watercolor. I’ve come to the conclusion that watercolor tries to master you, the artist. In fact, I have some watercolors in an art exhibit which opened last night, and I am very proud of my designs. I’ve been told by other artists there, that they like my work very much so that makes me feel amazing that I can share what comes out of me with others in art form.

One thing I didn’t want to do was buy black watercolor paper just so I could use my gold watercolors. Painting in a dark background is perfect! Nice tutorial, too.

I just love your tutorials. Simple yet effective techniques with stunning results! I’m curious about your choice of Holbein paints. Is there a reason for their your preference using this brand? As you often mix your colors, do you find the paints mix well given many of the Holbein colors are multi-pigmented?

I like both, but for me the abstract is more relaxing to work on. On the first technique, I tend to get a little anal with the black sharpie. Maybe the solution is to get some different color fine line pens? Yes, shopping for new art supplies no matter how small IS the solution!!!
