Maria...I live in Jacksonville now but lived in the Keys for over 23 yrs & flamingos are one of my favorite creatures and this piece(as well as ALL of you others) just simply enraptured, captured me. I have several Flamingo prints on my bedroom wall & as soon as I get home today & some "ME TIME..." I am going to try to replicate this...thank you so much for all the beauty you put into this old girls life...I do however, have a question you may be able to answer...many yrs ago, when I turned 36,(27yrs ago)my sister, who is an award winning make up artist for NBC, gave me a make over & she went to a craft store to buy artist brushes to apply make up to lips, eyes, cheeks, face...yet I always hear you artist say in your live tutorials for blending...smoothing out...softening effects...use a big fat powder/blush brush...which leaves me rather perplexed/amused...any reasoning? thanks again...
@mariamorjane8 жыл бұрын
Hi Beth, thank you so much! And my pleasure! We don't have flamingos here on a west coast I would love to see some next time I'm in Florida again 😀🌺💕I hope you will enjoy painting this one :) just please remember I painted it on hot pressed, quite different from cold pressed and rough. I'm not sure if I understood this right about brushes :) but I don't think you need a big brush for blending unless it's a big piece of watercolor paper you paint on :) 🌺For the make up, yes.. if you apply a blush /powder... for softer effects 😀Also every artist in painting has a favorite set of brushes, I find myself using a lot an angular brush 😋😊🌹
@bethmulligan25888 жыл бұрын
I did notice that with the angular brushes...fortunately...I have a few of those...I did stop at Michael's & didn't see a hot pressed paper there(hobby lobby closed on Sundays so will go today)...or I guess I will go to Jerry's or amazon. Thanks for that reminder...I've just picked up brushes again, after 40yrs,& they were oils & canvas back then so watercolor is a whole new learning experience for me & I'm simply fascinated w all the ways it performs. I'm playing w different papers now & just in process of making some journals so I can kind of write my life story w WC illustrations for my 2 grand children.(I left home @ 15- hitchiking up & down east coast, chopper motorcycles, concerts, oh my...I've such stories...it'll be such a great legacy for them) anyways...oh yes..as far as the blending brushes...I saw them say that w acrylic...
@mariamorjane8 жыл бұрын
Hi Beth, what an interesting life you have :) 😃💕I hope you will have enough watercolor paper to illustrate all that 😊🤗Sounds really fun and love the idea on creating an illustration story book for your grand children :) I hope you find all the brushes you need, if not, please email me and I can help you find some online. maria@loveoriginals.com thanks Beth!

Hi Maria, Love this one....of course I love all your paintings....I belong to your Patron & love it. I had a problem with the masking fluid on this one. I was wondering if it was my brand of masking fluid, which is "Dr Ph. Martin's Frisket Mask Liquid" or if it was my paper, "Canson 140 lb. Cold Press". I covered the flamgo in it as you instructed & when I tried to remove it, it pulled some of the paper off. So much came off that I couldn't finish the painting. So I was wondering what you thought about it. I'm wondering if I should get another brand of masking fluild or different paper. Since I'm just learning watercolors, (I have painted in acrylics & oils), I haven't invested in the more expensive paper yet. Thank you for your thoughts on this....I have did other paintings with you & enjoy painting with you very much . Hugs, Joyce
@mariamorjane4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joyce☺️Thank you so much and nice to hear from you🌹👩🏻🎨By looking at the supplies you used it's definitely the paper.. I have used Canson XL before and any cheaper Canson papers can't handle masking fluid at all. It does rip the paper.. I have seen it myself 😅 SO sorry you have experienced that.. My favorite masking has been by Winsor and Newton so far. I recommend it.
@aminaelabdi82657 жыл бұрын
fantastic! I'm a beginner and I wonder how do you know where to put shadows and where to put light, thank you
@mariamorjane7 жыл бұрын
Hi Amina, I observe everything wherever i am, whatever I see.. it's just looking at things in that day. When I walk to my car I look at the trees and imagine if I painted them... then I look where the shadows and light is...so let's say you are painting from a photograph, you want to look at it before start painting and see where the light is hitting an object where are the shadows.

what is the yellow stuff you are using to prevent the color from getting in the sections you don't want it to? I'm a beginner and felt inspired by that idea
@mariamorjane8 жыл бұрын
Hi Laurie, Thank you! Here's a little info I put under my video description about Art Masking Fluid for Watercolor. You can also just google those words and you will see where to buy it. "What is art masking fluid? It's a fluid (also known as liquid frisket ) that preserves white areas, white areas of the paper where you want to stay white. It's made of some sort of latex. Once you place it on your watercolor paper, on the area you want to stay white, wait until it completely dries before starting to paint. At the end of your painting, once your paper is dry, you can peel it off easily with your fingers or with a help of an eraser." Thanks Laurie!

@mariamorjane8 жыл бұрын
Your welcome :) Thank you for watching. I haven't seen anything so far that would replace art masking fluid, when I don't have it I'm just very careful and don't go over the main object, like here, you would have to go around and be careful so Indigo and Turquoise don't go over the Flamingo. I wanted to suggest a candle wax but that doesn't come off. I have a lot of videos where I don't use art masking fluid...
@nanovega50548 жыл бұрын
thanks alot for your kind reply...I really appreciate it and I will do my best without masking fluid
@mariamorjane8 жыл бұрын
Your welcome and good luck to you :) it's probably better to practice first without art masking fluid because that will force you to focus more on details 🤗Then if you ever get art masking fluid it will be like going down a hill 😃

it might be a avaliable but called something else. in some countries it's called frisket or liquid frisket

This is now one of my favorites, the peonies and boat on the water are two of the others. :).. Do you have drawings and videos for these on your Patreon site? Love it
@mariamorjane7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mia, thank you so much :) On my Patreon, I have a lot of pencil sketches but mostly for my newer videos because I started patreon in April and before that I wasn't saving my pencil sketches. There's a pencil sketch of the boat on a Lake (the video I published yesterday :) I could create a pencil sketch for this flamingo. I could create it out of a screenshot in photoshop.. since its an older video and I didn't save a pencil sketch. Also I don't have real time videos for the ones you asked. I have over 20 videos on my Patreon but about 11 are real time videos as I mostly post twice a month, sometimes more. Real Time videos require many more hours to edit and they are 1.5-2hrs long about. The real time videos I post there are newer videos, they are published on my Patreon first before YT, and on YT it's only a short version, speeded up etc.. I hope this helps :) Thank you Mia!

@mariamorjane7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ankit, I'm not aware of any other substance you could use instead of this art masking fluid but you don't have to use it at all. I haven't been using much of art masking fluid anyways. I do it sometimes but for the most part I'm too lazy to apply it then waiting on it to dry :) the best practice is to not use it at all :)
