Thank you! 🙏🙂 You can use default brushes instead, of course. You will get a different texture depending on the default brush you use and you may need to use the smudge tool to blend colors. Hope this helps. Thanks for your kind words 🥰

fun to watch and I am learning new things, but I'm a little lost with the masked rotate steps. I'm pretty new at much of this! Any suggestions for more detail?
@LettieBlue
@LettieBlue 4 жыл бұрын
Glad you find this tutorial useful. 🥰 To create the mask you have to select the segments using the “selection” tool and choosing the “Automatic” option. Once you have them selected, tap on the layer and select “Mask”. If you are unable to select the segments it’s because the shape is not closed, so you will have to make sure there is no gaps. You can also decrease the selection threshold by dragging your pencil to the left when you are selecting a segment. Hope this helps 😉

@@LettieBlue Thank you. That part I figured out, but duplicating the masked pattern and rotating it is the part I'm not understanding.
@LettieBlue
@LettieBlue 4 жыл бұрын
@@patscheurich2614 Oh, well, if you attach a layer mask to another layer, when you duplicate, rotate or modify that layer, the layer mask attached to it will be affected by those changes as well (unless, you unselect one of them). So, what I do in the video, is to duplicate the layer that has a layer mask attached, deselect the mask, and simply use the transform tool to rotate the texture. 😊
@morbidstarling
@morbidstarling 4 жыл бұрын
Oh i had the same problem, was stuck there for a bit until i realised you had to DE-select the layer mask (the one you had just duplicated [de-select by swiping right]) so that you have only the orange pulp selected then you can rotate it without it sticking out of your borders. Hope this helped!

Why do you duplicate a layer and then merge them without do anything to it?
@LettieBlue
@LettieBlue 3 жыл бұрын
If you make shapes using brushes that don’t create solid, continuous lines, you have two options when you want to fill in the shapes you’ve created: to duplicate the layer a few times until you get an outline with no gaps and more opaque (and then merge those layers), or to decrease the ColorDrop threshold. The problem with the last option is when the ColorDrop threshold is low a gap appears between the outline and the filling. That’s why I duplicated and merged the layers. Hope this helps. 😊

I have an iPad Pro 12.9. You can use Procreate on a smaller iPad, but you will have to zoom in and out more often, he he. Also, the bigger the iPad the more layers and larger canvas sizes available. But, you know, everything depends on what you are going to use it for. 😊

Hi, nice tutorial! but one question why you duplicate the sketch layer 4 times and then combine the duplicates????
@LettieBlue
@LettieBlue 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Florencia. It is a shortcut to increase the opacity and also the thickness of the lines we make. 😊 When we use brushes that don’t create solid, continuous lines, we have two options when we want to fill in the shapes we’ve created: duplicate the layer a few times until we get an outline with no gaps and more opaque (and then merge those layers), or decrease the ColorDrop threshold. The problem with the last option is when the ColorDrop threshold is low a gap appears between the outline and the filling. That’s why I used the first option. Hope this helps. 😉

brushes for sale.. so many brushes.. from so many youtubers... brushes.. for sale....
@LettieBlue
@LettieBlue 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Pesto12601, in this tutorial I share with you how I paint a watercolor orange slice using the symmetry tool, layer masks, and some other tools. I am a professional Illustrator who creates tradicional and digital watercolor illustrations. Of course I use my own brushes to create my illustrations because those brushes are the ones I use in my day-to-day work. The watercolor brushes that come with Procreate don’t allow me to create watercolor effects like blooms, variegated washes, hard and soft watercolor edges... so I had to create my own. You don’t need to purchase my brushes to follow along the tutorial. You can paint a different orange slice following the same steps and using the default Procreate brushes. Yes, my brushes are for sale, but you don’t have to purchase them if the default ones work for you.
@pesto12601
@pesto12601 4 жыл бұрын
@@LettieBlue The default ones DON"T work for me... that is the problem. Why doesn't procreate just realize this and create some brushes similar to all the ones on the market? The default brushes are kinda useless!
@LettieBlue
@LettieBlue 4 жыл бұрын
@@pesto12601 I think Procreate will end up offering in-app purchases. I would be happy if they do that, as long as their brushes were worth it. IMHO, Procreate comes with too many sets of brushes, some of them are really well done but most of them are just cool but I don’t need them for anything. I think it would be better if you could have just the ones you need. Anyway, if you don’t want to rely on the brushes they create, you will have to learn how to make your own brushes. It is really time consuming but, in my case, it was totally worth it. My digital watercolor illustrations look way more realistic now. :)
@pesto12601
@pesto12601 4 жыл бұрын
@@LettieBlue Yes.. in app is most likely the route they will take... $9.99 one time purchase I'm sure isn't going to keep them afloat forever given the progress of the application. Personally, I have a few go to watercolor brushes that - like yours - give much more realistic results... they only cost a few $$$ and I delete the junk from procreate.
@LettieBlue
@LettieBlue 4 жыл бұрын
@pesto12601 That’s great! After reading your first comment I thought you were annoyed with people who sell their custom brushes and make videos explaining how to use them. 😅The truth is, it requires a lot of time to create good quality brushes, especially if you are trying to mimic the appearance and behavior of traditional mediums. You not only have to know how that traditional medium works, you also need to learn how all the brush settings work in Procreate, you have to create the shape and grain texture of each of them, test them on and on using different colors, because some settings do weird things with certain colors, different blend modes, see how they look when your strokes overlap and modify it if it doesn’t work as expected... and, if you decide to sell them, you also have to guess how people are going to use them. I sell my essential collection of 12 watercolor brushes for $6.99 and my master collection of 75 watercolor brushes for $19. $0.25 per brush looks like a bargain to me. I know that there are people who give their custom brushes for free, that there are others who sell them and others who keep them only for themselves. I believe that people who think something should be free or cheaper should stop for a moment and think about if they are capable of doing it, and if so, if they want to spend the time it requires. I’ve read many comments asking how they can get Procreate for free. For God’s sake, It’s only $9.99!!! I don’t know how they pay their bills.
