Wow! You did a painting with watercolors! It was fun listening to your comments, and I loved that you had forgotten water!!!😂 Painting with watercolors is more difficult than many think, especially when outdoors. It is all about how much water, how much paint and the surprises, both bad & good, that happen. Thanks for sharing.😊

If you like watercolors, you would love gouache. You can do everything with gouache that you can with watercolors, but you have the added ability to paint opaque in a similar fashion to oil. Really enjoyed the video.

Being out of control with watercolors is the best part of watercolors. Someone told me they’re like jazz and that stuck in my head. Nice work as always, Michael. Love seeing the process.

What I am inspired by is your willingness to take some risk. To experiment with different media, allowing yourself to feel and let it be as you march forward. Such good ideas for life and art. I have found art has helped me in problem solving and self- acceptance, and ultimately ,Trusting God , having Faith its okay how it goes. Its like Walking on the Water. I loved your sharing moment of panic about having forgotten water! I am so like this.." wait a minute...there is about a thousand gallons of pure mountain water all around.." Problem solved. Also, congratulations on the accomplishment of that hike and having an adventure with your daughter. Great memories made, Great painting, great life.

I like how your painting style is translating to watercolor. I feel freerer with w/c and struggle with oils. I enjoy your ocean paintings. Safe travels.

Enjoyed this and loved both pieces. I did some small watercolour pieces in Greece a while back and keeping it simple to the drawing is the way forward and watercolour helps you do this in my experience as you have also shown with yours. Please keep it coming.

Hey Michael, it's so nice to see you experimenting with watercolours. A couple of unsolicited and not so pro tips: Use more water (and pigment). Be more "violent" with them, make them splash around a little. Try to "lead" the water rather than brushing it on. Pre-wet an area randomly (or precisely) when adding layers to create interesting edges. For instance when you darkened the stream would have been a perfect opportunity to pre-wet the whole area (brush or spray bottle) and then go in with color "straight from the tube" and just see what happens.
@chamberlainpaintingsАй бұрын
I need to use colors straight from the tube more often!
@andreasd1132Ай бұрын
@@chamberlainpaintings Yeah, it's really cool, just make sure you have enough water on the paper to let the paint dissolve in interesting ways. Or you could use dry it to achieve opaque effects ofc.

I need to travel next Spring and am interested in switching from oils to watercolor for a time. Your video here showed how you can set up streamside with limited materials and have a great day picture making.

I've been binge watching, you've inspired me to start painting again after many years. Love your style of impressionism. I was curious if it's ever difficult for you to part with some of your paintings at the art gallery?
@chamberlainpaintingsАй бұрын
If I live with a painting on my walls for a while it's often difficult to part with it. I'm usually happy that a painting is going out into the world to have a life of its own!
@tomSeaBreezeАй бұрын
@@chamberlainpaintings I can totally get it. I remember hearing a story years ago about Charles Bronson, who also painted. He gave away many of his paintings to family and friends, but after a few years he asked for them back or offered to buy them back because he missed them.

Great video, and fun painting process as always! A couple thoughts: You mentioned having a challenge with controlling the amount of water on your brush. Frank Clarke, on his art show "Simply Painting", at the beginning of every episode would mention amongst his supplies, a towel he kept on hand for that very purpose. On your other painting of Emma in the trees, I think the shadow pattern you captured is already doing a great job of making the section of the painting where she's standing the focal point.
