Such lovely stars. Reminds me a little of Van Gogh only without the swirls. The night sky looks black at first but changes the more you look at it. The shades of green, blue and sepia, very very dark but there in the night sky. You captured that. Beautiful.

Thank you! :) It doesn´t have to be preweted, but I prefer if it is. If you do not prewet you must work very fast and with enough water, so you paper doesn`t start to dry to fast and leave those lines that you can not cover anymore. That is the reason why I almost always prewet the first layer. Just don`t want harsh lines. With second layer you already have that base and it is easier to avoid those harsh dry lines.

most people including me prewet the paper before painting skies and galaxies cos it allows the paint to flow more easily and creates really nice effects,although its okay even if u dont pre wet it

:) You just need a little practice. And definitely do a color sheet. Mix each color with every other color and see what you get. That could help. :)

I did not mean prevent but prewett, as add water on top to make it wet before starting to paint. Maybe I made that word up.🤣

As a beginner watercolourist, I’ve attempted this painting and I’m fairly happy with the outcome - but my sky seems stripy and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. Any ideas? X

Hey, you were probably going over it too much times with your brush. That happens when paint starts to dry or is dry and you go over it with wet brush. You are picking up some of the pigment from paper so it leaves stripes. That might be the reason. Maybe keep that in mind when giving it a new try. :)

:). I am not using watercolor, but gouache. That is opaque paint. Something between watercolor and acrylic. If you do not have gouache, you can use maybe white acrylic. White watercolors are too transparent and you will never get the same effect as with gouache or acrylic. :)

Unfortunately, regular paper is really not suitable for watercolors. You can try, but you will see very fast that it is a real hustle to paint on it and you won`t get even close result as on watercolor paper.
