I love the long narrated paintings! Especially seeing the palette with it so I can learn how you are mixing the paints!

Awesome, thank you 😊🙏🏼 I have a few more upcoming processes, and I try showing the palette as much as possible for the indoors ones (for the outdoors it’s a little more challenging).

Hello from the east coast of Canada. I have been watching and listening and practicing with multiple people from youtubeland for a couple of years now.(water color) And of course some are better than others, but each have something to give to the world, - you may have to dig around a bit with what they are trying to share, but all in all, I appreciate their time and effort. You know what I like best about you? Your complete and total honesty, and lack of pretension. So darn refreshing, I love it! You are "real" and in today's world, that sometimes is hard to find. If you continue on this path you have chosen for yourself, with all its many facets, someday you will become the best, no doubt in my mind! I have become a faithful follower, and just want to say thank you for all you do and for all you give us each and everyday.

I made it here. I am enjoying all of the things you talk about while I do a watercolor in tandem with a soft pastel painting today. Loose techniques and challenging, causing me to think before every next phase, and I have groups to post them to Monday if all goes well enough. My skillset is definitely growing, but it takes a lot out of me right now, as a beginner in everything. It is absolutely time to apply what I have learned to paper and share with artists who have many years on me, but accept me without judgement or conditions. I challenge myself. Where I lack technical skill, I do everything I can to make up for it with my soul ;-) Thanks for being here.

Yes - you have the right approach! I will actually talk about something similar in an upcoming video :D Thank you!

I really like the video; I like where u talk about what u were doing, the techniques and especially the thinking behind the whys and why nots. And the encouragement of accepting the fact that not everything has to be perfect, thanks for the demo. I love rural churches as a subject and I love this painting! Keep up the great work.

Thank you so much (: I never planned on painting so many rural churches, but somehow it keeps happening! Plenty more similar videos to come.

I got to the end but, more importantly, I ENJOYED it to the end. Your presentations are unscripted and spontaneous. I really appreciate those qualities. I look forward to checking in with you each day, just like I enjoy regularly touching bases with my friends. You always have something worthwhile to share from your heart, head and hands and I find your honesty and transparency both refreshing and inspiring. I follow you here and on IG and FB. I'd like to be able to share my work with you, too. Today's painting is one of my faves. Keep doing what you're doing. It encourages me to keep up my daily art practice and stay fresh and spontaneous with my teaching.

The most practical advice I take from your videos is the importance of identifying the values and shadow darkness. I really struggle with this! I don't know why I'm so afraid of the darks, but your tuition is encouraging me to do so.
@LironYan7 жыл бұрын
So happy to hear (: I probably over-communicate in my videos the lessons that I'm going through. So it makes sense that this one will be dominant right now. One practical advice that may help you is to go into the other extreme - try going too dark on purpose. More than you think is necessary. That way you'll find the upper limit (;

Hi Liron. I enjoyed this. Your progress is really showing. Glad to see more foreground detail as, you're right, it adds depth. You are so good doing people. I would love to see a couple walking behind the fence toward the church entrance... bringing life or making it less architectural. However, your choices in pigments is changing and bringing more life that way. Thanks for sharing. I'm doing catch up as we had a forest fire here and had to be evacuated... just now back home. Of all the paintings you've done, I like this one best. I especially like the tree/fence area... great shadows making the whole area bright!
@LironYan7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Will try and share some figures in the next few videos (: Are you alright? Was there any damage? I hope everything's okay.
@2lmdi7 жыл бұрын
Thank for asking Liron. We were very, very, lucky considering the massive damage. The fire went around us.. about 2000 to 3000 yards away. We're still decompressing after a week in a 24 foot RV... three adults, three dogs and two cats! We consider ourselves blessed to have gotten out safely, very little loss and, oh the people... the first night we were allowed to park in a church lot.. just us and the fire fighters whom we were so happy to meet... my how they work. The following days we found an RV campground with full hooks ups and a single space available... the owners reserved the spot sight unseen which is rare and would take no money from us for the whole time we were there and it was a $50.00 a day place... just amazing the goodness that comes out in people in a crisis. Terrible way to gain them but I'll have some warm (oh, that's a pun.. ugh) memories of this.

Love watching you work. This Sept. I start my second year of teaching elementary school kids art, I do believe you have a sketching for kids book. And I'm looking to take your online sketching course. Thanks for sharing your gift! You always have a great attitude and just make watching very enjoyable. I'm near the Daniel Smith factory, so those are my favorites, Schmincke is a close second!

Yes practice is very important. I was watching Alen Owen's video for beginners. While watching it seems easy but I was getting frustrated after drawing. His skill of drawing is amazing . Being beginner I like your videos because of simplification of the sketch. I learnt a lot about values of the colours . Thanks a lot.

lol yep i made it all the way through, as usual. :P you probably don't want to hear this but my favorite vids of yours are the longest ones where you open up and say whatever is on your mind at the time. you're like my 'artist buddy', you make me laugh and smile, think really hard at times and yes, even worry about you when you don't post. but mainly i feel i am growing along with you, in art and in confidence. you give us so much more than art, and that my friend is an art in itself! i love that you said you do not berate yourself cuz you did your best and could do no better. that is how i look at my art, i can absolutely hate the piece but at the same time be at peace with myself knowing that i put my best into it AND will do better next time because i learned something. :) thank you for all you give of yourself (and know that is the best you can give ;) ), much love and peace to you!

Thank you so much (: I really appreciate this. I'm very happy to hear this actually! I was afraid people skip forward the whole vid, or getting bored. I have a few similar videos in store (full processes), as well as one discussing judging one's own art. I think you'll like it too! :D
@crystalinedreams60397 жыл бұрын
oh great, i was worried you would slap your palm to your forehead and say "oh no! what did i do?" lol cool, cool that you have more long vids to come. the judging one sounds interesting. i feel that judging our own work is a must otherwise how do we improve? it's the comparing with others that will get one in trouble, unless we are trying to copy their style to learn it and incorporate it into our own. oh i almost forgot again, your dark spot in the sky... put a bird there. :D

Hi Liron: I would like to share an idea that I tried and looks that works fine.... I took some of my chalk dry pastels and powdered them, then I use Gum Arabic, a little glycerin and some drops of honey, after mixing I grind them with a glass mole... I did yellow, blue, and red... Its amazing, the color vibrancy and the also transparency, I have no ides about how light-fast this mixture are but I will put them to the test... I just want to share it with you..... Up to know they look and feel just like a regular watercolor....

Thanks Dianne for your comment, I think that they will do good... obviously it will never look like a good Daniel Smith or any Pro Watercolor, but I think it will do a little more than ok, I think.... THANKS...
@LironYan7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! (: Very interesting and creative idea. A while back I looked into making my own watercolors. I may give this one a try when I do (; The lightfastness will probably depend heavily on the components of the original chalk, could be interesting to check it up when I do that.

Thank you ^_^ Of course - the brush I'm using is Silver Black Velvet, sizes 8 and 12. I sometimes use a Raphael round as well. It covers larger areas, great for sky and large areas of foliage.

I have enjoyed your videos up to today Liron, but I am a professional artist and I would recommend that if you are going to runt about a subject you do it based on thorough research and knowledge of the subject, rather than from a personal and much less informed point of view. There is nothing wrong in having your own opinion but let it show than you have come to it from research and thought process rather than from subjective impressions. I don' t know you personally, but I believe you really did not mean any disrespect when you spoke about Postmodern art, so although these comments can come across harsh sometimes I want you to know that I am saying this in a friendly way, so please do not get upset or offended.
@LironYan7 жыл бұрын
Mape Andrews Non taken, I appreciate the feedback 😊 I tend to freely share my opinion on different subjects, as well as from my personal experience. This comes hand in hand with doing these videos in an unscripted and spontaneous way (which comes most naturally to me, and I think viewers enjoy the most). Actually, I'm not the type to do too much research, which has its drawbacks, it's actually a weakness. But that's just what comes naturally for me. I didn't intend to hurt anyone with my opinions - so I hope you weren't offended too. Plus, there's also fantastic art out there that answers the criteria I mentioned (: Looking back I would agree that sometimes it's best not to make generalizations, but rather judge each piece individually. I will have that in mind in the future. I hope this clears it, and that you weren't offended as well.

I always watch all the way through! You are so generous with sharing your thoughts and ideas. I wanted to share something with you in return. I don't know how I never knew this thing existed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6TOo4ZoqrZlabs You have such a good eye you probably don't need this, but I guess even the old masters used it! The one I ordered is called a scale divider, but it goes by other names as well (that i can't remember at the moment). It's a tool to help with proportions. Anyway, thanks again for all your hard work and generosity (in front of and BEHIND the camera)!

Thank you for sharing, and for the kind words ^_^ I heard about this tool recently, actually. Could be interesting (and if the old masters used it... (; ).
