NOT SPONSORED! Real honest review of Winsor& Newton Paints. I purchased this sample card for Winsor & Newton watercolor paints on Amazon (link below) so I could try them out. I was pleasantly surprised by many of the colors, a little confused by some of them. Make sure you watch until the end for a bonus palette selection from this collection of colors!

This is the best swatch video I've ever seen, and I watched really many! Moreover I owe many professional colors and you really managed to show the colors exactly how they look in reality (many times they look altered in other videos) Thank you for this amazing work and for your comments as well, that are super interesting! I really recommend to watch this video to anyone that wants to buy more colors!

Oh I used to really dislike granulated paints and really hate rough textured paper.. now I absolutely adore them and can't get enough of them 😅

Excellent video. As you rightly say, you only need a warm and cool yellow (when buying yellow). Paint manufacturers always produce far too many colours. Artists need to learn the art of colour mixing!

Granulating colors are beautiful to watch but I still hate the way they look heavy and muddy on my paintings. I had heard the same how with time I'll start liking them but it's three years of almost daily painting and I still hate them and the more they are in fashion the more I dislike them. Everyone has their own preference but I'm here to say that granulation is not an inevitability 😁 As for WN I would take them any day over DS, the heavy particles of which are not to my liking, it's just that WN have some colors that hardly rewet unless I put some serious effort into it.

I felt the same way. I didn’t like granulation but now I love it. However, I still don’t like opaque colours. Thanks for your informative video.

Yes me too! I know a lot of watercolor paints come in semi-transparent and semi-opaque but for me, it has to be totally transparent! I build my palettes around transparency, so it's really nice when a brand has a good selection.

A lot of people said these watercolors were overall bad but I decided I’d form my own opinion. I don’t do a lot of a layers. This is the most recent review I’ve found on these watercolors :) I’m buying the 12 set as I only want to experience with it :)

I’ve heard the cotman set is not great but honestly it’s all up to your personal preference! I actually liked quite a few of the colors. They are vibrant and highly pigmented. Try a few different brands and see what you like!

Noreen Cerrone Art The W & N Professional are WAY better than the Cottman. I really like the W & N Professional paints.

Caput Mortuum Violet is PR101 (Synthetic Iron Oxide as far as I know). Their Burnt Sienna is also made from PR101 but this one is completely transparent.

Ooo I may have to get a tube to try that. I don't have a lot of "earthy" colors in my main palette other than red iron oxide (Daniel Smith) which I believe is the same pigment. It is transparent and it's so great in different mixes.

@@NoreenCerroneArt Yes, Transparent Red Iron Oxide is made with the same pigment. PR101 can be transparent or opaque. I recommend mixing Caput Mortuum with Cobalt Turquoise Light (PG50). It mixes soft beautiful greys. Or adding pearlescent colors in a light wash.

@@NoreenCerroneArt It's best to mix every color in the palette to see what colors you can get. Sometimes it just need a small change. I guess there are also videos about neutrals.

Hi! I really don't get the lightfastness scale in Wondsor &Newton's chart, as I'm used to star ratings instead. Which letter/figure shows the lightfastness?

I believe the paper these are on is causing many of these colors to appear as if they're granulating when they're not. Like Quin Violet for example- that color is a pristinely non-granulating and smooth color (almost like a pthalo). So definitely a poor choice on W&N's part to use this paper. I am assuming it is a wood pulp paper and not cotton? Just wanted to let you know. Even the Dioxazine violet looks slightly granulating and of course that color isn't at all.
