I'm curious whether you stretch 640gsm paper? I've heard some artists say that it still buckles if you use a lot of wet in wet technique and others saying that it never buckles regardless of how much water is used. I'm obviously talking about very high quality papers like Arches or Fabriano Artistico.

Those that criticize deserve snark. You do a lot of work so that complete strangers can learn to paint and earn almost nothing for it. I am very grateful to you, as I think 141,000 others are also!🇨🇦

"Cats biting feet..." Whenever I watch your videos, I know you will deliver smile-worthy comments and do so dead-pan. I love it and wait for it each time. This water level lesson resonates because I'm always fiddling and unsure of myself about how much water to mix into the paint. Thank you for clearing things up.

This was the best explanation of how water and watercolour paint work together. Giving us the principles behind what happens makes it so much easier to remember and to apply. Also the two ways to use thirsty/vacuum brush is really helpful as was the explanation of how paint works on different paper surfaces. Thank you as always, Michele, for putting so much thought and time into your videos to make them clear and so well structured.

The paper stretching tutorial video by Michele is the best I have come across. It is straight forward and you get a great result. I stretch all my paper now. I made a few of these mistakes just this week working on the day 5 winter Landscape challenge. The quality of my paper is average practice paper so I tend to rub too hard and damage the paper. It is so true the more I double work areas the worse the problem becomes. Would love some organizing tips I have multiple palettes and dried paints everywhere.

Another very informative video Michele! I also have a great tip for anyone who wants to use a HP paper. the trick to having the paper cooperate a bit easier to completely saturate the paper with clean water allowing it to absorb completely into the paper, then add your paint. It really increases the drying time, or a second would be to use a 300lb paper because it's not quite as smooth as the 140lb, it's a happy medium allowing you more workable time but still allowing for the fine detail. As you also raised a very good point about allowing your paper adequate time to dry! This is such an important step!!! which could also change depending on the pigments used and your painting process. I almost always use glazing with staining colours, so I don't have to wait too long before I can add my next layer but when I glaze with non-staining or granulating pigments I usually allow days or even weeks for drying to allow the pigments to settle into the paper before I add my next layer.

Thanks Michele, a good reminder about how to get the best results all in one video. I can never understand why people don’t stretch their paper. Based on the information in one of your videos I’ve stretched mine since I started painting nearly two years ago and it’s made my life so much easier. I’m a firm believer in knowing the correct methods before being able to choose when and how to break the rules ❤

Hot pressed paper can give you some really beautiful paintings if you know how to use it. I've used hot pressed paper loads of times from doing loose landscapes or flowers to more detailed paintings. I've used it for line and wash paintings which is helpful because the texture of cold press or rough wears the nib of my pen down too quickly. I absolutely love hot press paper and the effects they give you! Especially when using salt or granulating paints! Gorgeous!

Stretching paper only takes a few minutes to perform (as shown on your wonderful video!). Not only does my finished painting remain flat, but it is helpful for me (a beginner) to not have to deal with so much puddling and warping as I’m trying to learn to paint. Your Winter Landscape Challenge was so much fun that it was really challenging my patience to let things dry! Maybe I need a challenge that only releases a few minutes of instruction on the same painting each day so that I’m forced to let it dry overnight, haha. Awesome instruction, thank you!

Just my personal opinion ---- for whatever that's worth --- I was really looking forward to this "tutorial" to see if I had been missing out, but..... was turned totally off by your need to respond to critique. It came across (at least to me) as being just too snarky and made you seem just too thin skinned. Of course, it is your channel and you can say and do whatever you wish, but I can't think that I'm the only one turned off by it. I truly wish you well, but I think I am going to stick to a few other artists that focus on techniques and leave me with a positive attitude and feeling.
