Absolutely gorgeous! It's magic, to me, the way you work from the first wet wash and then move into more defined brush strokes. It *looks* so easy. But it's not. I am convinced it's magic. You, Toby, are an art magician!

Right! Its like a sculptor making it look so easy - you just "reveal" the figure by taking away everything else. Except mine doesnt work as well lol

Toby, this is wonderful! You have caught not only a really good likeness, but also her character. The collar gives great contrast to the grey. I love it.

Such a nice portrait of your pooch! I also have a white and black dog, and struggle with the white parts,but you have given me some great ideas, as usual.Thank you!

Thank you so much for this. My daughter asked me to do a portrait of her border collie which I’ve been putting off for months, wondering where on earth to begin. This has helped so much. 🙏🏻👍

A nice surprise to see you doing a more traditional watercolor painting - and a lovely result! As for pencil vs masking fluid vs preserving whites - I don’t think any one way is the right way or the best way. As far as I’m concerned the rules are made to be broken!

This is beautiful! I tried a few times to paint my own dog and I always have problems to show "the real Dante". It looks like a Belgian Shepherd and people recognised him - but there is still something missing... Otherwise I seem to please friends by painting their dogs. I do like the picture of Betty. Looks really amazing.

Hi Toby, so good to see you do the dog portrait of Betty, well done! I have done lots of dog portraits, I find if the dog has turned its head slightly it is easier for me to paint. The front on view shortens the face of Betty and is hard get the length of Betty's face. She is just like my male dog Monty but he is 10 years old and going grey now. I love the painting you have done of Betty. Thank you so much. 😊

Awesome! More please 🙏 (how about short videos in real time?). Great to see your paints/water in shot as well. Getting correct water to paint ratios is half the battle, isn't it? Are you ever tempted to get your fountain pen out at any point with this type of painting? 🙂

You’ve achieved a nice, loose painting. I usually paint landscapes, but I find that most people ask you to paint their dog! Do you use any methods of measuring the proportions, or do you simply draw ‘by eye’. Thanks.

I must ask, was Betty paid for posing for your painting? 😂
@TobySketchLoose17 күн бұрын
She gets paid in kibble, belly rubs, walks and today she ate about £20 worth of 425gsm watercolours paper whilst I was out so she also has a community service order to serve 👮
