Note that unlike 1080ti, the 2080ti has vrm on two sides. So, you may need heat sinks for the vrm on the left side of the card.

Some high quality content here, awesome as always! What I find interesting in this video and new for me is that memory and VRMs are still so cool using this setup. There is no way the fan blowing on these components could alone make this result possible. Fells like having a lower core temperature contributes greatly to the the memory and VRM cooling due to much less heat being transferred from the core. Would be interesting to know what memory and vrm temeratures one could get if the additional G12 fan was completely removed.
@endermanPlaysMC

But we also have to take into account the fact that thermal pads are not perfect, although transferring heat they are also insulating a bit. Next best thing would be to use thermal paste, but then the problem is, that the heat sinks will fall of since nothing is holding them in place(unlike pads stickiness). And here comes thermal epoxy which should work pretty well in this application but good luck if you want to remove the heat sinks.
@tibiosocialdemocrataxxx4146
@tibiosocialdemocrataxxx4146 6 жыл бұрын
I feel like thermal pads transfer the heat from the GPU to the VRM. In the mobos buildzoid and der8auer both said that a direct fan to the VRM will cool them more than with most of the heatsinks (cause they're usually bad in mobos). But my point is that I think a fan directly to the VRM must be really effective, at least more than a thermalpad connecting to a hot heatsink due to the GPU temps..
@flandrble
@flandrble 6 жыл бұрын
It's all in the fan, you can pretty much go without heatsinks if you have active airflow over the VRM. You will see this all the time on extreme OC benches.
@asafbinderman594
@asafbinderman594 5 жыл бұрын
Mmm no, its actually the fan, nothing to do with lower core temp. High quality mosfets shouldn't even get that hot with the max voltage supplied to a 1080ti (1.093v max). Cards with quality 10+2 or 12+2 can even sustain ln2 voltages (1.4-1.5v) with only a good fan blowing on them... so its actually not that surprising :). The only downside to having no heatsink is that you have zero passive cooling in case of a fan failure. Than again, at normal voltages with decent overall case airflow even that might not be an issue at all.

I've loved all your videos, and have tried both the G12 + AIO and Morpheus II (which is my current setup) on my FTW3 1080ti. One suggestion for the future: in addition to the temperature data, would you also put benchmark scores? It would be really interesting to see how much temp affects clock rate which in turn affects performance.

This may be a bit late to comment on the video, but its worth posting I think. I installed the G12 on my ASUS Turbo 1080Ti last month with amazing results! I use the NZXT X63 AiO with its stock fans, but replaced the 9mm NZXT stock fan from the G12 to Noctua NF-A9 chromax that is connected the the 1080Ti PCB. The X63 radiator fans is connected with a Y-splitter that is connected to the motherboard. Pumps and fans are controlled by software. With the stock blower the GPU ran at 35-40C on idle and 85C under load thermal throttling quite fast. The blower has been cleaned, but never opened up so it has the original thermal paste. With the G12/X63 conversion installed, the temperatures went down to 21C on idle and 38C under load. The core clocks to 2050Mhz and stays there which it never did before, it never even got above 2000Mhz at all with the stock cooler. The X63 fans can keep the temperature under load with fans never going over 60%. There's so much performance gained and the quality of life improved drastically, no more high pitch ear hurting from the bad and worn down 7mm blower fan. I'm planning on replacing the X63's stock NZXT P140 fans to Noctua NF-A14 Chromax fans some time. I should have done this a long time ago, I highly recommend it!

I did this with evga black sc, modified the aluminum plate over vrms, cut and sanded them down, opened the holes around the block and it definitely helps keep memory and vrms a hell of a lot ton cooler. Paired with a h55 which is really all that's needed. Stays under 60c 55c mostly and vram and memory barely goes up in temp.

I used an EVGA CLC11 120mm AIO on my EVGA 1080ti SC2. Temps are great and helps keep my small case cooler by getting that GPU heat straight out of the system. GPU core temps on gaming can range from 60-70C depending on game and ambient temps. I did add small heatsinks on the other chips and that dropped power and memory temps 5-10C depending on application. Most of the power and mem temps stay in the low 60's while maybe 2 or three will hit close to 70C.

My Gigabyte 1070 G1 Gaming was very loud under load with an OC to 2025MHz even with Kryonaut paste so I went with an EVGA CLC 120 and the Kraken G12. It's working really well and at moderate fan speed the temps max at 54c on the GPU core. Granted I had a custom fan curve to keep the card under 75C at all times but this is a far better solution and now I get NO throttling except when the card hits the power limit set in the vBIOS. It was worth the money to me for the reduction in noise alone.

Ive used the previous version of the bracket but got rid of it because it wasnt compatible with the 980ti when i upgraded. I recently bought this for said 980ti and paired it with the h50/55, cant remember, and it works great. Grant it my cooler is older because i used it with the previous bracket but its still keeping my card under 65 in 110 degree heat. I have the fans set up with the undervolting adapter and still getting thoae sub 65 temps even full over clocked. Great choice and i dont regret the "premium" price tag. Definitely recommend saving up for this and getting atleast a 120mm rad.

I used to have two 980 Ti FTW cards, each cooled by a G12 and a Corsair H55 (their cheapest 120mm AIO). Hottest I ever saw it get was 55C on the top card. I left the back plate as well as VRM heat spreaders on to make sure everything stayed cool, not just the core. I am thoroughly surprised the VRMs stayed as cool as they did (edit: on your card I mean). Especially a 1080 Ti. Gotta LOVE the iCX monitors! This is why when the 11/20 Series cards come out, I'm going EVGA iCX all the way!

The G12 is awesome. I bought a used EVGA 1080ti SC which is probably around 2 years old. It ran ok, but once in a while I would get a DirectX 12 crash when running CoD Warzone, at GPU temp around 77-78. Opened the card and tried to reapply with new thermal paste. The thermal pads were so old a lot of them are torn when I pulled out the original heatsink. Watched this and a few other videos, decided to go with G12 and X53. All three fans running at 1500rpm, heaven's benchmark at 1440p for 45 minutes, GPU running at 2015MHz, temp never touched 50 C.

With stock fan speeds it is very quiet, hovers around 70c and sits at around 1985mhz.

the compatibility with other aio is not mentioned. for example the arctic liquid freezer 120/240/360 are compatible.

Absolutely fantastic video. I have been worrying about my GPU - I keep getting notifications from Windows that my GPU is at 83-84 degrees celsius at max load. Thanks, subscribed! BTW: how did you mount the X52? Thinking about radiator against case and fan orientation. I have a x72 CPU cooler, I mounted the radiator directly to the case and the fans on the inside blowing air IN to the case

I'm getting ready to do this very thing with my GTX 1070, with the same Kraken AIO and Kraken bracket yet I was told to apply heat sinks to my Vram but you didn't put any on. Do I ned heat sinks?

If you want to controll the fans in Afterburner, do you have to connect just the fan which is right on the GPU with the GPU itself or do you need to connect all fans including the ones of your AIO?

awesome video! love that you did this on a non founders edition card.. I've been looking into getting a set up like this for my EVGA 1080 sc, however because the G12 is made for founders edition no one can guarantee that the G12 will be compatible. Any ideas anyone? cheers

killed it! Great video showing how to get this NZXT Kraken AIO paired with the G12 Mounting kit. I'm getting ready to do this exact setup on my 1080ti. I'm going to use the GPU fan connector to control my AIO fan speeds through MSI Afterburner. I'm a noob at building and I have a question about this setup. Did you plug the water pump speed controller connector into the PUMP_FAN header on the motherboard? The NZXT instructions say to plug the 3-pin connector from the water pump into the CPU_FAN connector on the motherboard. Obviously we cant do that since we have a CPU cooler already plugged into that connector. I'm pretty sure I know the answer but it would be nice for confirmation. Thank you!

I was able to eek out some extra overclocking out of my 1080 ftw by running the fans and pump off the motherboard, freed up some voltage, also i modified the cold plate on the vrm/gpu side of the board so i kept both that and the backplate and am seeing lower temps than others who removed both. was thermal throttling before and now it's silent under full load at 48c.

I´ve got an Accelero Xtremme III in my 970 (much more fresh than 1080 ti) and temps are in the 50s Cº when I install the cooler but in the next weeks temps ups over 70Cº wich is insane for that cooler in a 970. I´ ve tried applying the thermal paste(Arctic MX4) in all differents ways, with different quantity and result are always the same, seems like the cooler lost contact with the chip by the time but screws are correctly, so I don´t know what is happening

I have used these g12 brackets to watercool my MSI gtx 1080ti Gaming Xs in SLI. For the upper card i used kraken x62(280mm) and kraken x42(140mm) for the other one. Unfortunately, didn’t have enough space(cuz i have x62 for the Cpu as well) in my Corsair 780t to make then both kraken x62 or at least 240mm ones for both, cuz x62 performs much better(35C maximum), the difference can go upto 10-12 degrees.

Did exactly the same with my Ti FE last year with x62 (plus liquid metal) - the temps go to 48-49 degrees max, which means the card never throttles and I can enjoy perma 15TF thanks to the 2076mhz clock. G12 is currently the best option to squeeze the most from your GPU hands down.

The position of the pipe fittings might limit the mounting position of the rad on certain cases. What I can see on the video, mounting the rad in front of the case and at the bottom seem to be the only options. Are the pipes long enough to mount the rad on top of the PC casing?

My temps average 58c using a corsair h80i v2 but instead of the kraken g12 adapter i made my own mounting adapter, i used a fairly thick copper sheet cutout that covers the vrm and core.

That's a bit high. A friend of mine using h80i v2 on his 1080ti that's about the same tdp a my 980ti actually more effecient than my 980ti but still see higher temps than I have on my 980ti. Mine goes to about 40-50C on full load
@adriiiME
@adriiiME 6 жыл бұрын
DiceAir It is higher because im cooling the vrm aswell not just the core, the nzxt g12 mount only makes contact with the gpu core(or gpu die) and you need that extra small fan there too cool other components. Also my room is already quite toasty this summer at around 26c to 31c.

Канал Шистика nice I will be doing the same thing. Currently with an aggressive fan curve on my stock reference card and cooling system I can get my card to 60-62c. My goal is to get to low 50s and would be nice high 40s during gaming

With that ASUS board you should be able to adjust the fan curves to be based on GPU temp in either AI suite or BIOS when connected to the motherboard.

hey man i have a question. With that fan cable adapter you will connect the little fan that comes with the Kraken G12 ? or the radiator fan ? also if i have to connect 2 fans instead of 1 because I'm using a 240mm liquid cooler how can i connect all of them to the video car connector in order to manage the fan speed with a software like MSI afterburner ? please help me I'm stock at this point.

I run this on a MSI Armour RX580 - reason, because I upgraded my CPU cooler to a corsair 115i and used my old 110i so it only cost me $30 and the GPU runs at 100% all day on 35deg C.
