Hi all! Per request, I'm taking a mini break from the big bloom action to show you an updated video on how I mix my paints. You'll learn how to mix no matter what the paint viscosity is--tube paints (medium to heavy body); fluid acrylics (aka "the runny stuff"); and pigments! The reason why I like this recipe so much is its versatility--I can use it for the blooms technique, my deconstructed blooms, and flip cups! I also like that by simply changing the base, I can get different effects! For example, instead of using titanium white mixed with American Floetrol as I do in this video, I could use regular white house paint (Eggshell is preferred), spread it to cover my canvas, and get pearl cells when I tilt and stretch out the paint! How cool is that?! I'll be sure to do another video after the holidays so you can see what the house paint does without the need for DecoArt Satin Enamal--especially if you don't want pearl cells taking over the entire canvas! Anyway, back to this video! In this one I wasn't worried about getting a lot of cells as I knew I was going to tilt quite a bit to get the dreamy quality I was after, but the line work produced by adding a cell activator to the colors really makes for some interesting effects; and using two cell activator colors really opens up the spectrum for color blending. I'm really happy with this painting; I hope you like it too!
Getting super close to my goal of 70k subscribers by the end of 2021! If you like my content, PLEASE consider subscribing! It is so appreciated! --K
If you're looking for the nifty "Hands Off" handles I show in the video; they're in my Amazon shop under paint supplies. Link is below.
***************************************************************
Colors/Brands:
Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe-mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator:
Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); Varathane Water-based Polyurethane Gloss 2:1 ratio paint to varnish. Mix well.
Brands/Colors mixed:
Golden Fluid Acrylics in Iridescent Gold Fine; TLP pigments (This Little Piggy) in Lily Pad and Emerald. DaVinci Fluid Acrylics in Payne's Gray; tube paint is Arteza Pearl Turquoise.
Golden and Global Fluid Acrylics-- I put about 2-2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.
For tube paint, I added an ounce of paint (heaping tablespoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick then I'll add a teaspoon of varnish/water to thin. (I make a bottle of "Jo-Wa" by adding 1/3 JoSonja Gloss Varnish and the rest water, and keep it in a squeeze bottle and use as my "water.")
All pigments are 1/8th tsp. pre-disbursed with a small amount of JoSonja Varnish to wet it (stir really well), then add into a 3 oz. cup of Pouring Medium; stir well.
Cell Activator Colors:
Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Prussian Blue with a tiny bit of Amsterdam Oxide Black. Amsterdam Titanium White. 3.5:1 ratio Floetrol to paint.

It states art therapy in part of the title, and I must be transparent, I am 63 and recently ended a 24 year marriage and it has been tramatic for me. So I must be honest, i sit in therapy weekly, but what has seem to help me take back my life is the various types of pour paintings tutorials. Thank you so much love your tutorials.

I like this painting oriented the other way around. I like the dark on top and the light on bottom. Then it looks like a sunspot on a beach, with a stormy sky and a hint of light coming through the dark clouds. Dark recedes and light brings the perspective forward.

Gi-Day Karen love the painting dark to light. Amazing how same paints in and different effects in each cup. Gorgeous. Storm clouds rising over the sea. You make the mixing very clear. Mix the pm first. So it’s the same for everything. I have done it individually and have to make it the same by adjustments. I’m doing it your way now. 💞🥰💫✨🌞

Oh! It looks like a moody ocean with a sky that is starting to brighten but still moody at the top. I love it so much. We don’t get the discovery channel at our house and I have been waiting to see which one you are on. I hope we get to see it one day. I loved your how to mix section because it is relevant in Australia and America. I know you really get what you pay for in colours because I was always an artist until I stopped. Until my Dr found out and made me start again but do it in abstract. That caused 2 weeks of meltdowns, she wanted me to paint outside the lines and get paint on me. 😳 Two years ago I didn’t know fluid art existed. Now I wouldn’t do anything else. I have been using thick, white house paint as a base. I knew it was just wrong but I didn’t know how to change it. Most of my life I have used Jo Sonja paints and later years I added Matisse. Somewhere in my garage in a box there is a big clear bucket with a lid. It is full of new tubes of Matisse. My garage also has giant pythons in it. I have never been inside of it but it is killing me knowing that paint is in there along with so many other things I need. Thank you for this video. ❤️

WOW, I LOVE everything about this very classic looking painting! I don't even think you could replicate it; would not look anything like this if you tried 300 more times this week. You're an even better classical artist than you thought, aren't you?! Well, no surprise from your followers, maybe. And thanks so much for all the tips and recipes; I've got a notebook full of 'em, an empty bank account now (husband will stop moaning eventually), and I'm on the lookout for delivery trucks daily. SO many different supplies I've been collecting for a few years now, and they seem to change, but oh, well, some hobbies are just more expensive than others ;)
