Making a Stoneware Water Filtration Crock

The berkey type filtration which you guys are imitating also requires 2 vessels. One at the top where the water runs through the filter and another at the bottom to hold and dispense the filtered water. I don’t see how the water gets filtered just sitting there and not passing through the filter. Plus I like the idea of an old school bisque filter system where I do not have to wonder what is in it and if it is still filtering or constantly needing to be replaced.

This is just great!! I've been trying to learn how to make this for my self because here in Argentina they are really rare and hard to find them, I mean, at least with this quality, this is a piece of art!!

The idea of clay water filter is ancient. It is used in bisque form, not glazed, to filter the water through, into another glass or metal container to catch the filtered water. It should not be glazed as glazes contain lead which can leech into the water and prevent the water from filtering through the clay. The other way pottery was used to store and filter water was in the form of a clay amphora. Very ancient. In this case the amphora holds the water and cools it as it sweets out the impurities into another bowl. The amphora has very thick walls and is also unglazed and porous. The water that sweets out is discarded because it contains the impurities. Do you guys make anything like the above?

Purchased one of these January 2022 and got it in March. We love it! After reading some of the comments I wanted to give my two cents. Expensive? Yes, however we were buying water distillers at about $80 dollars a pop, and had gone through 4 of them. Before purchasing a 5th one, getting close to the price of these , we found this filtration system which I would recommend them to anyone. There are less expensive ones out there that will do the job, but I really like the fact I'm getting a product from a fellow human, not a corporation. Like their website says, "functional water filtration merged with artistic craftsmanship". Plus, MADE IN AMERICA. I realize that may not appeal to all, but it sure does to me.

But how the interior crock that filter the water maintains the porosity to allow water to go through?

This reminds me of when I was in Girl Scouts as a child, our leader worked with our troop to make ceramic items to sell for money for our trips. She had a kiln in her basement. Great memories.

Explain the filtration within the pot. Exactly what does the filtering and of what. Any contaminant testing?

What about the heavy metals contained in the kaolinite, is there a possibility to be released into the water ? Thanks

Crocks are versatile, no plastic which is fantastic and now there are options to add water filters too.

Water is Life!! I love this vid, I used to make pottery at home, I sold the kiln and materials because I'd got into other things. I forgot how much I loved it. I can throw and make glazes and I can make plaster moulds and slip casting clay. I have loads of glaze recipes. This really really made me want to get my hands into the clay again.

3x's more expensive than other handmade filters from outside the US. Beautiful but most people will not be able to afford this. Which is sad, water quality everywhere is so poor.

@gladtidings4all It takes many hours to produce this pot. The pot needs to be fired two times and glaze needs to be applied for many pieces. If you aren’t a ceramicist you have no idea the time and costs involved. This is functional ceramic art. David could make a simple pot with a clay disk and sell it for a quarter of the price, but it would look like a flower pot lol. You’re paying for the system to look beautiful. It’s art

i hope that person on the right was compensated for being persuaded into sitting through all of this, while appearing to be some sort of interested businessmen and or student ?. the product itself is probably quite grand. but the scripted naration was detected within 90 to 94 seconds. if i hadnt seen the video image, it might have taken technically longer to deduce. jesting and jousting aside. the product produced is probably lovely. i dont have the cash, and or time, to investigate. good luck : ) just my worthless two cents.
