I hit the thumbs up when you said plants don't work on a schedule! I really enjoy how you share your understanding of established norm's whether they are right or wrong. So many out there are just repeating info everyone has decided is the answer because its been repeated so often and its a quick and easy way to answer. Makes me think i can watch any video and still learn or pick up at least 1 or 2 new things from you!

Hello! No thanks to your videos, I decided to up my plant game to let those leaves to mature! Haha😂 In your opinion, do you reckon by adding stuff like leca balls/coco chips alongside the moss in the pole will help to retain moisture longer (and perhaps adding weight to hold the pole down better)? I do not have the luxury of time to attend to my plant often. Thanks in advance 🍻

Hi Jan, Thanks for this video, love your moss poles, actually love the way plants are growing on these moss poles 😄 I know the best time for repotting is spring or early summer. But I received a pot (non draining holes but with the wright soil) with 3 gorgeous plants (M. Thai constellation, Ph. florida ghost and Ph. warscewiczii aurea flavum. Good video! I'm just wondering, have you ever had mold on your moss pole? Last month I made my first moss poles and installed them, after a couple of days a furry layer of mold started appearing on some of them, so I let the moss pole dry out completely. Since then I've just been misting the moss pole, which I guess doesn't do a lot to it. What would you advise doing in this situation? Just keep on keeping them moist?
@ottifant9723
@ottifant9723 Жыл бұрын
Hi, In another Video he names some reasons why moss poles can become moldy. 1. Maybe you have packed the moss too tight. (Bad air flow, moss at the inside stays wet) 2. The quality of the moss is very important. Low quality moss can become moldy very quickly. 3. Some mosses continue dead plant roots. You have to sort these out because they can get moldy very quickly.
@samc.991

@@sydneyplantguy I missed that you leave the cap on and put some holes in it - that seems like a critical step haha. I was just flipping it really quick (without a cap) which consistently creates a bit of a mess during the 500ms that the bottle is flipping, but as soon as the mouth of the bottle is resting on the moss, there is enough resistance from the moss to keep it dripping slow. A lid with holes makes way more sense! Thrilled to realize this haha

I spent a couple of hours researching an alternative. His liquid fertilizer seems to be different from commonly available ones, because it contains a special form of calcium and magnesium and is buffered to a certain pH. In the EU/Uk Liquid Gold Leaf contains very similiar ingredients (also rich in Ca, Mg, S) and is a pretty hyped product. If you have the money and can find it anywhere, I recommend buying that. In germany Compo complete should be a good, cheaper alternative. When you use a liquid fertilizer generally only use half the recommended amount, otherwise salts start to build up. This can happen even more quickly in moss poles, since a lot of water evaporates from there.

@@Plantdude44 thank you so much. I thought that it might be an NK-fertilizer. I'm still very new to plant parenting and fertilizers are still a foreign area to me. So I'm not too sure about the other ingredients like magnesium and calcium. Thanks so much for looking it up ♥️

I’m having a devil of a time figuring out EXACTLY the size and locations of the holes in your pop bottles?! I’m losing my mind on frustration not being able to keep the water flowing! It either stops or comes out WAY too fast! PLEASE help me?!?

There is no exact size... I use different drill bits and they all work. You need sure the moss slightly touches the holes so it breaks the surface tension

@@sydneyplantguy dang! And I have had even worse luck when it touches the moss of things just stopping…. I don’t know what to do…. I’ll keep watching your videos and maybe someday you’ll show a video of the caps. So there are NO other holes in the bottle? Just two or three in the cap?

Thanks to you and your channel, I made my first moss poles! I didn't realize the moss can be stringy. Some of the tiny ones fall out of the grid even though the meshing is quite compact (like yours I'd say). Is it my moss that's the issue or is it how it is?

What do you think about self watering moss poles?

Not a fan! Unless they can walk over to the sink and water themselves, you still need to be involved, so might as well just flip a bottle upside down

I am about to put some plants into moss poles but became hesitant when I heard of potential problems with algae. How do you handle algee on your poles?

I don’t ‘handle’ algae. It’s not harmful so it’s not a problem at all :)
