Someone in PetSmart told me they banned selling milk snakes in Illinois. They are starting to make it hard to keep reptiles in Illinois

Something I've heard (I don't have my own reptiles, yet) is that you can put old pennies (solid copper) in your reptile bowls, and it will help prevent bacteria and algae growth. I'm sure there are additional considerations for each animal (can they swallow a penny? Is that specific reptile sensitive to copper?) but it might be something to look into. As a fish keeper, I know that algaecides frequently have copper in them, but I also know that some fish will die when exposed to copper (most notably goldfish).

I have tried this, but I also heard doing this long term can be toxic as well. So I ditched the method 😅

You should time the misting for 2-3 minutes for a chameleon enclosure. Just mist once before the lights are on, and in the evening after the lights are off. They don’t like to be sprayed on their body or face…

2:52 you can be more gentle and spray the enclosure avoiding him. That’s not necessary, you’re stressing him. Also it’s better to have the lights out while you mist, it looks like clouds, gives them a warning that water is coming.

I have a corn snake and I’m trying to understand the UVB requirements but I’m having a hard time. What bulb do you use and do you have it mounted above the enclosure for bloom? I just don’t understand the difference between the wattage and the percentages and the different bulbs and I want to give her UVB but I am unsure what to get. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing. Do you think keeping a copper penny (pre-1982) helps keep water cleaner? I've been told that it does. Also, what did you use to clean the glass? Was it a vinegar/water mixture?

I'm awaiting my first ball python arriving; do you have any advice on how to maintain humidity? He'll be going into a 4x2x2 viv if that helps!
@richardkelchjr.1954
@richardkelchjr.1954 Жыл бұрын
If it comes with a humidity shield, use that. If not, what I did, is get some of the HVAC tape (the silver stuff) and cover some of the screens. It will also make a difference if you are bioactive or not. You will just need to play with it. Trial and error. Get a hydrometeor/humidity gauge for sure.

So exciting!! Make sure you have a good substrate that can retain moisture, a large water bowl that can take up a decent amount of surface area, live plants, then daily mistings should help! Is your enclosure pvc?

@@reptiliangarden Sorry for only just seeing this now! He arrived yesterday and is settling in well - it's a wooden enclosure however I've sealed it all with silicone and I'm using coconut husk with misting in the morning, afternoon and at night, seems to be working so far!

1:30 your chameleon is too close from the UVB light, he can get burned!
@LanaLeon
@LanaLeon 3 ай бұрын
If a chameleon “always wants to come out” it means there is something wrong with their enclosure. It could be bacteria or the environment isn’t right. That behaviour is romanticised, it’s just an unnatural behaviour. Check his enclosure closer, maybe he could be sick already.
