this movie is so historically accurate even down to the individual people. Historically, marshal MacDonald escorted the king to safety and was completely loyal to france, as depicted in the scene when he remains with the King until the end at 27:50.(you can see him in the King's back right side with the famous marshals bicrone hat)

I've been making a lot of wikipedia pages on the French Army units of the time and during the royalist eras. I have a keen interest on uniforms and accuracy. Let me just say.. HOLY CRAP the uniforms are so accurante it's hard to believe this film only had a budget of 35 million dollars, because those uniforms each are probably around 3,000 dollars. I believe the original was over 5 hours long. In Ian Ogilvy's autobiography (which is quite brilliant) I believe he mentions the "French" contingent had already filmed their scenes over 4 months (or something like that). It was filmed in the Ukraine, and must have taken the best part of a year to complete. The Producers and Directors had planned that the film should cover the entire 100 days of fighting, and had filmed lots of extra footage to represent the other battles. Unfortunately, I believe the original Director's Cut was longer than that for "War And Peace"! So, the version most UK audiences have seen, I suspect is the 2 hour television edit. I bought the DVD some years ago, and noticed some extra scenes. It is a monumental film, but will never be seen in its entirety

The todays question is, how Napoleon is evaluated and rated in 2021. Was he the thieve and monster or was he brining the code civil and the Secularism over Europe? theWaterloo was, together with the battles in Quatre Bras, Ligny and Wavre one of the bloodiest weekends in history - 80.000 dead and wounded in 48 hours.

If you ask me, spreading the foul ideology that came out of France in that era is enough to make him a monster. The political and social turmoil the Western world is suffering today is largely down to French-thought of the likes of Rousseau and what it has evolved into

@@meduseld6610 Rosseau's political theory relates to the natural freedom of man and the early development of social contract theory. I'm not sure how these can be coined monstrous considering they are the founding tenants of much of the democratic world today, and by themselves, regard only the relationship between the governed and the governors. If you'd like to remove Rousseau from the ideological space, may I ask who you'd deem a suitable replacement? I explored that question in my book on the film. Lots was filmed of course, but as it was not included in the Final Cut, it can’t be considered lost. It was deemed not required.
