Before taking apart just try soaking waterpik handle in really hot water for 10 minutes. The button should pop out and keep soaking and move button off and on. That worked for me.

I should have read the hot water trick first, but thanks for the posting anyway and taking it apart for us. Worked much easier than I expected.

Worked for me too. I am in the IT business and used the tools I use to take laptops apart.

Lifesaver! First, I tried prying the handle open several times but it wouldn't budge so I pried the stuck BUTTON very gently all around it until - BINGO!! THANKS!!!!!

good quick vid. I initially tried to put all the springs in before closing the handle - does not work. Good easy way to put back together. did use piece of electrical tape on handle to make sure it does not come apart. Like the idea about the hot water to slightly expand handle to make taking apart easier. Easy fix to save 25$ and not buy a new replacement.

WD-40 worked for me. Just (1) spray some into the space around the button, and into the opening where water comes out; (2) work the button for 5-6 minutes; (3) leave it sit for 10-15 minutes. The button just popped out and it worked perfectly after that. Sure there's some WD-40 flavor that remains, but it washes off quickly enough. If it worries you, you can do the standard cleaning with vinegar. But it saves prying the thing open, with all the risks that have been mentioned.

Thanks for sharing, first time opening it was bit difficult felt like i was going to break it, just be careful that the springs will fly away..it took me sometime look through the conners to find it.

It just needs a bit of cooking oil down the hole where the pik goes, this lubes the valve and the button will quickly pop out.

All you did was take it apart then put it back together. How does that prevent the same problem from happening again?

You just showed how to take it apart, not how to actually fix it...

You are clearly providing needed information. Why you feel the need to pepper the video with that jerky fast-speed motion is beyond me. I'd like to see how you dealt with the springs and not some Mario Brothers Donkey. Kong BS! Your video gets a big "F" and I'm now off to find one that gives me the confidence to tackle this issue.

My waterpick handle has another problem - it leakes water through the buttons. Does it mean I have to buy a new one or can I fix it?

Sounds to me one of the two rubber o-rings is not in place. Check out my connected video to see if that’s the case.

Can't get the controller open. It's like it's glued together and I am breaking it to split it.

Mine was also quite difficult to pry apart. I just didn't give up. Possibly "hot water" might be helpful. I worked both ends carefully with a very small screwdriver. Being careful not to really break things, especially the hose.
