Dude! I have a ton of these. Got them really cheap from Wish. Lol. On all our bags and a few keychains. They are awesome. This is what I used to make my first ever ferro fire (I even made a video of it, 😆)

These DOSMAMZ firestarters and the replacement threaded rods are exceptional! 👍 The Exotac Nanostriker XL is also a great product, but because of a disappointing experience with Exotac, I wouldn’t recommend any support for or dealings with that company. Transparency with their consumers isn’t a value they embrace, unfortunately.

That is the Chinese knock-off. They have copied the item made by ExoTac, a US company that manufactures here in the US.

I have the original and the clones. I think Exotac products are great, but the clones work the same; not one bit of difference throwing sparks. The original’s aluminum handle/container is better quality and better machining, but many folks opt for the less-expensive clone, especially since they both use Chinese mischmetal rods that throw sparks. The clone’s handle isn’t significantly sub-par to render it useless either. At the end of the day, both are just ferro rods with a fancy handles.

This is a cheap chinese clone of the USA made exotac Firestriker. If anyone sees these please go buy the genuine article instead of this imitation.

Why? These DOSMAMZ firestarters work great. FYI, Exotac sources all their ferrocerium from overseas, too. Exotac can claim “Made in the USA” because of FTC guidelines related to production, assembly, and overall manufacturing costs, but you’re still getting foreign ferrocerium in their Nanostriker, and most likely from China because there are no ferrocerium manufacturers or producers within the USA. Mischmetal rods are predominantly coming from JX Metals in Shanghai; Auermetall rods from Treibacher Industries in Austria. Exotac isn’t transparent about this because they don’t have to be, which is a shame.

The research and development and original product is available from a company that has skin in the game. They took the time coming up with the idea and spent the money to create it and we're then ripped off. This IS theft at its core. I personally can't in good conscience endorse a product that I fully know is a hack. Especially when the money saved isn't even a great some. You are talking a 10 to 15 dollar difference. This isn't a 100 dollar rolex and a 20 thousand dollar rolex situation. It's 20 dollars. Seriously...buy the real one.

For me, they operate at the same moral level as a company producing a knock-off, so it’s a wash for me. I have zero respect for Exotac because of a conversation I had with them about the ferrocerium they use-still have the email thread. They are deceptive and dishonest simply because they legally can be. Just because it’s legal, doesn’t always make it moral and honest. What they can/cannot legally do under FTC regulations and the law is irrelevant if they choose to operate non-transparently with consumers. Brother, I’m all for “Made in America”products, even those where the cost and percentage of foreign material used is insignificant to the overall cost of the product manufactured-I could care less! That said, only from companies who, with a good conscience at their core, choose to maintain integrity and be honest with their consumers, especially their U.S. Veteran base-I have no problem defending and supporting these companies! If Exotac fell into this category, I’d agree 100% with you in defending them. To see Exotac taking advantage of the ignorant who do not understand FTC regulation and consumer trade law for “Made in America” products is deplorable! If Exotac were to choose to be transparent about foreign materials used in their products when asked, this would in no way ruin their products; however by choosing not to be transparent, this speaks volumes about them and the way they operate, and not in a good way.

I have zero respect for Exotac based upon communication I’ve had with them and of which you know nothing about. I’d be on your side defending them if they operated with integrity. The issue has nothing to do with foreign material used in “Made in America” products. Overall, their products are great. Rather, the issue is when asked about the foreign ferrocerium they use, they skate around the issue and refuse to be open and honest about it. Why support such a company?
