Thanks for the video! Went ahead and bought Gorka 5 instead of some overpriced Fjällräven jacket. It just arrived, I went and added some more waterproofing to it removed the soft elbow cushioning. Wasn't planning on crawling on my hikes. :) I like how rugged the jacket is and I know it will last me a lifetime.

If you want to really waterproof a canvas suit, you should try wax. Some people also use a wax and oil mixture, but that ruins the color and is more recommended for oilskin clothing. You just have to apply the wax by warming it a bit and rubbing it on the fabric and then iron it in our use a tumbler or a hairdryer. There are special waxes like the g1000 by Fjellraven, but you can use all sorts of wax. Holds forever, doesn't wash out from the rain and keeps moisture out of the fiber. Especially in winter conditions canvas can become life-threatening if you break through ice or sweat in it. With wax, this is not an issue. There is a video by a Finnish guy, that shows the difference between normal and waxed canvas/cotton by dipping them into the water in temperatures far below freezing. The waxed cotton stays dry and the unwaxed cotton freezes to ice immediately.

I just waxed my Bars gorka with ikea parrafin wax tea candles, melted it on with a heat gun. Didn't discolor it and I really don't care if it does. The DWR treatments work for a while but wax is so much cheaper! And even if you wash it you just have to scrape on some more wax and remelt it. It takes on a personality much like denim fades or shined leather.

Good tip. Another cheap way to make clothes waterproof but no as effective is to rub candles on your uniform - than use hair dryer or some other way of heating it up so the uniform absorbs the wax. It also works but white candle leaves the uniform looking a little lighter shade unfortunately.

You could use beeswax terpentine and linseedoil instead. 2 parts beeswax, 1 part terpentine, 1 part linseedoil. There are some recipes on youtube. That will really make it waterproof! Good luck. Great suit by the way.

That's true. The only downside is that it makes your jacket feel like it's made from wax-paper.

​@@cs-rj8ru In the beginning its a bit worse, but i like it a lot. The thing you need to remember is. What do you want to use the gorka for? Because it has great breathing capabilities, and its not the most suitable sort of fabric for waterproofing with the method i proposed. You are better of buying a dedicated jacket like a fishtail parka for waterproofing like that. Or get some Gore-Tex (the downside of Gore-Tex is that it is leak when you walk through vegetation within no time). Id rather have the more heavy waxed equipment and a clean gorka for normal moving around. Greetings, Jeff

after its waterproofed,all dirty places you can sponge with a little wet sponge let it dry,and spray those place again,thats it.

I like m90 a lot, and uniform`s cut, and aspecially camo itself. it became one of my fav patterns. i like both of m90 - and m90k too. yeah,i heard about waxing, but still not tried. i will do it on my custom gorka which im getting very soon.

till first hot wash i guess. and depends how strong your gorka suffer mechanically. its simple physics. if your gorka in touch with other surfaces a lot waterproofing removes faster where surfaces have contact. my advice is just dont wash such suits too often, and better sponge dirty stuff and repeat waterproofing multiple times.
