Indigo is a colour. It is the colour between blue and violet. So it has a bit of blue and a bit of violet in it. It's a very beautiful noble looking colour. It's a colour that would fit to a king or a queen. The expression "indigo girl" in this song could mean: woman of my dreams. Because in this song the singer dreams of a woman that only exists in his dreams that he falls in love with. And in his dream the woman is the queen and he is the king. You could interpret the song as: If you believe in love and have a dream of an ideal woman that you love with all your heart, don't give up this dream, because it could turn into a reality if you don't give up believing in your dream. So in a way it's a kind of a hymn for love itself.

I think one of the reasons why this song is so magical is because of the tender voice of the singer. From the first time on when I first heard the song I got the impression that the singer is madly in love with a certain woman. And he doesn't want that someone or something does a harm to her. Like a baby he wants to protect her. That is what I feel when I hear that he pronounces each word so tenderly. I get the impression that to whoever this song is adressed that its genuine feelings of love behind the singing sung to a real existing woman although the lyrics suggest that the woman in this song exists only in his dreams. Whatever the song means I'm so glad that it exists and I love it very much. A song that captures the essence of love.
