Hi. I’ve been using this system for the past 2 years and haven’t had any problems. 11 meters, £20 pole at 33ft. Hawkins 1/2 wave on one pole and a 5/8 on the other. Good results with both. 👍😊

I have both the 12 and the compact 10 meter Spiderpole and they really are high quality units. I'm a big fan of End Fed Half Wave antennas, no ground plain required. When out and about working portable QRP I use various resonant lengths of wire for the most popular bands and get very good consistent results. Takes no time to setup and take down. For those of you who are delving into HF for the first time I would recommend trying verticals as no real hardware or climbing of trees is required - most setups can be home brew but ready made UNUN for EFHW are available, or just keep it simple to a ¼ wave with a decent radial system will yield good results. Out portable I prefer not to use ground or elevated radials as they have magical properties in attracting members of the public. Another top video 👍👍👍 thank you.

I like this idea very much, I think I'm going to pay a visit to a local metal worker in the village to have a plate with a spike one side and a socket the other for a spider beam pole, I guess 12 holes would be enough for radials, Peter your making me use the grey cells, and of course you know where the pole will come from, I have this policy buy cheap buy twice, I never buy twice. 73

I'm using a similar set up , it's resonant on 40m and works well on 20m . I've used 2inch waste pipe clips to attach my pole to a wooden fence post .

Great video and timely. Only last night erected a 10m telescopic pole on a heavy duty speaker tripod, with some guys for extra security (was windy). Ran up 10 m efhw. I used a number of plastic rings with varying internal diameter, purchased as a kit for a few pounds. They are used to guy the pole at various points, but since they each have a number of holes it is a great way to neatly run the wire tight up the side. Was working 40, 20 m last night well, 10W into Germany, although a Contest meant testing was not really appropriate as no-one had time to talk !! This was without ground radials, but an earth spike. Will check out radials next time, will use from my super antenna pack, ready made .. M7MSR ps... did notice an increase in noise compared to my 20m horizontal efhw which is strung across garden. Might try vertical in the garden with station, but really want it for use when out and about ..

Interesting video, when I'm out and about with my ft-817 I use an L march with a random length of wire normally around 30 foot or more sometimes less, works a treat. Thanks for the video Peter, Adam G7CRQ

I have the 40 foot spiderbeam pole and I can say it is very sturdy. It is not a light weight pole and I wouldn't want to use it for SOTA unless I could drive up to the location. Buy it is awesome.

Would definitely like to see some options for Campervans, possibly HF antennas permanently mounted. Currently have a Wellbrook for reception, I'm only an SWL. Would like an effective whip mounted permanently which can be rotated down whilst mobile. Believe it or not the LED lighting in the van chicks out some rfi! Promote your products Peter, every other bugger does.

If you have a van conversion I have found that most boot mounts work well at tge top of the rear doors. If you have a coach built model, I am afraid it is a non-starter as there is no metal work. 73 Peter.

Not a pop-up, but loop antennas can work well as a prop-up for some but not all locations.

Thanks Peter as always these are very helpful I currently have a single band 20M, built out of gray UV resistant PVC. At some point it will be replaced and I have considered the Spiderbeam as a good successor to the current mast. While I have the space for a dipole or even possibly a loop unfortunately there is nothing to hang them from much above 20 feet (6 meters). I like the idea of a pop-up as wind can be a problem here so something that can be brought down easily or even come down on its own would be a plus. I do have a question, could you possibly do something a kin to what DX Commander does with his mulitband vertical. I think I could fabricate the spacers needed to keep the two radiators apart to have a 20 and 40 meter one and therefore not need to pull it down to jumper an insulator. Any thoughts on that?

Radials are a massive hassle. Small gardens and courtyards usually means no room for ground based radials. If you have room for radials then you probably have room for a loaded beam.

I would suggest 4m radials are a but easier in a small garden rather than any HF beam that needs support and a rotator .
