Hi Peter and thank you for giving me permission to add to your already EXCELLENT review of the Alinco DX 10 . I have had one of these units now for just over a year. It really is a super 10Mtr Transceiver. I would just like to add TWO IMPORTANT features, of this Radio. SWR Transmitting Protection (tsr) and VOLTAGE protection (tdc). When tsr is enabled, the Radio will detect the SWR of the Antenna. Once the SWR is beyond the SWR set in advance, The radio would prohibit transmitting automatically and loudspeaker will emit voice prompt Then ´´HI SI´´ icon will display on the LCD to remind you that the SWR is too high or antenna not connected! ( WE HAVE ALL DONE IT!) Secondly, tdc, When on, the radio will detect the supplied voltage Once the voltage surpasses the voltage setup in advance, The radio will display ** DC LO** or **DC HI** to remind you that the voltage is not in normal state. The radio will also Prohibit Transmitting and emit a beep prompt. To get to SWR setting press AND HOLD Function button for a few seconds until the screen displays ´c9´ then press function key again 9 times until you come to tsr. Then use the CHANNEL select knob to switch on or off. For tdc, press function button for a few seconds, until ´c9´´ is displayed then press funtion button 10 times until you come to tdc. Again, swith on or off with the Channel knob. These two features can save you from damaging your Transceiver. Thanks again for all your hard work in making these videos Peter. Cracking piece of kit. Literally worked the world on 11 mtrs with this on no more than 10/15 watts ssb. Will do 25 watts, but really no need I’ve found. Australia, South Africa, California, Europe and the Middle East. Looking forward to trying out 10 mtrs in January after my exam.

The USB socket is for a cable which will expand the Transceiver, for example 27mghz.

This is a nice review. And you are right, it's time to join the fun on 10 meters. As for me, I am new to HF and fortunate enough, a good friend of mine gave me his HR2510 and it's in very good working condition which operates from 26 to 28.999MHz. In fact, I've already made few contacts with it, farthest was 10,735km from where I'm at. 73s, DW1QEW.

Reminds me of the old Uniden mobile radio I picked up for 10 meters when got my license back in 1991. Might have to find one and play around with it

Those old 2510/2600 Uniden rigs were pretty cool. Many of them were modified and went all the way down to 26mhz so there were a lot of them on CB as well. I worked them frequently back in the day and with 10 opening again, we may see them back again.

I just got a CTX 9900 which I think is, internally, the bigger brother of the above rig. I found it is is a bit prone to adjacent sideband splatter on TX, at any power level, which gets worse if the mic gain is too high. It was impoved with a bit of tuning of the SSB drive level and ALC.

This is a glorified CB radio with Echo! This type used to be sold in truck stops and were convertible to 27Mhz more or less easily. FCC stopped the sales for a while with large fines for the truck stops selling them.

The Alinco fascia panel is different, but the internal design and construction is the same as my Anytone AT 5555. The Anytone feels like a cheap plastic radio, the switches are soft, the controls feel less than precise in use, and the stock microphone feels like a cheap child's toy. That being said, as a radio, straight from it's box, it's doing 35w SSB, 22w AM and 65w FM. And it will cover 25-31Mhz if you connect an appropriate antenna for the frequency your wanting to use. I run mine into one of the cheap AT-100 tuners you can get from Aliexpress and elsewhere, into a T2LT antenna on a 10m pole, I worked Europe and the USA from Australia on the same day on both 10 and 11m bands. It might feel like a cheap radio, but it outperforms MANY of the radio's that cost 5 times as much to buy. I would buy another one without hesitation if this one fails. I also use this as my mobile 10m rig, and it does equally well into a 5ft mobile whip, 5/7 and 5/9 reports from New Zealand and Japan from the car. NICE LITTLE RADIO'S.

Be aware that the 'USB' socket on the rear of the DX10 is not standard USB, its possibly RS232 or RS485. There is an adaptor lead available, Nevada radio did have them in stock (Part no. ERW-10). Plugging in a standard usb cable could lead to troubles!

This year I'm going to take and pass my foundation I've been retired on ill health for 17 years now I was on cb in the 80.s but I've decided to get back on air I'm going to do all cb and side band and my heart has always been set on amateur when I get my license I'm getting in a frame for the wall For cb ssb I've a crt ss9900 my daughter bought me and I'm getting the k po 5000 plus I've also a couple of the albrecht ae 2990 afs handheld Now looking for a amateur base TRANCIEVER which I'd like to purchase from your shop but I don't know where to start what would be a good TRANCIEVER to start on for a newly qualified radio amateur say in the £1000 to £1500 range I'd really appreciate your help Regards adrian

Thanks for the report. Any reason they don't look to be available in the USA? If you can get them, maybe you send one on the boat? I see them as available on your store site. Even in USD, it looks like a great deal. N3LZQ. (Got dad's old moonraker 4 to repurpose sometime anyway.)
