Peter, a feature you should talk about on this radio is this. If you have some noise and want to "notch", you can open the "multi" tab first. Now when you "notch" you can actually see where the source of the noise is, and also see the "notch". This is a real help as it means you no longer have to blindly twiddle a notch backwards and forwards. I have used this many many times.

Thank you Mr. Waters for your very informative videos on Ham Radio, with explanations that a non-techie, really new, Ham can understand. I have a Yaesu FT-65 HT and a new Yaesu FT-710 Field. It took me over 5 years to convince my YL that I needed a good Transceiver. Currently, my issue is getting a decent antenna setup. I tried a random wire of 71foot electric wire with a 9:1 unun and a 1:1 choke up about 17 feet high. I am receiving quite a few stations from the US South. My main objective is to DX into Asia, but my small yard is oriented east to west, with houses on all sides. I am hoping I can convince my YL to help me buy a Aluminum Vertical. Our budget is tight so it will be quite sometime. I have only managed to make 1 or 2 contacts so far and this too only to the US. Thank you once again for your excellent videos and I have tried to watch all your previous videos too. This is Gyalpo VE3CXV in Toronto, Canada

I just downloaded Ham Radio Deluxe V.5! It took a bit of trial and error but I have the radio connected to my junk computer! I am receiving FT-8, FT-4, RTTY, MCW, CW, phone in AM, FM, SSB! I am looking forward to downloading satellite images, HELL, Olivia, Throb, and many more to come! I am only a hobbyist and can only transmit on the Lowfer, Midfer, Hifer, public frequencies with this radio. But, I look forward to one day getting the entry level radio license. The problem is, it is a very hobbled license when when it comes to HF frequencies, leaving me feeling a bit lukewarm about getting the license. VHF and UHF seems to be primarily FM. I can do FM with just a CB radio.

The beauty is, it is the same as the AESS version without the speaker, from what I have read. I have had one since May of 2023, but not as my radio. I checked it out for someone that thought it had a problem with turning off every time he pushed the talk button. He also said it had a horrible hum on some lower frequencies. It must have been his power supply and antenna. I found no problems at all transmitting into a dummy load using my own 50 ampere power supply. I have tried to reach the owner of the radio since May of 2023. I declared the radio abandoned the 8th of February 2024. I plugged it up with a 259 centimeter vertical antenna on one antenna and a half a kilometer long wire for the other antenna, making three turns in the attic. The receive in the radio is incredible with such junk antennas! I, who can not transmit except in a dire situation, am merely a radio hobbyist. But, I can hear so much with this radio! It rather inspires me to get the amateur radio license. However, the amateur radio entry license is very hobbled when it comes to HF frequencies. This makes me feel a bit lukewarm about getting tu amateur radio license. I can listen on the radio without a license st all, which is about the most you can do on HF with the entry level license, besides on 10 meters, which is often closed. There are a few micro band segments or CW on 80, 40, and 15 metres thrown into the entry level license adding insult to injury of not having any real HF privileges. That is not enough for me to want to get the entry level license. Sure, I can do FM on vhf and UHF. But, I can do FM with just a boring CB radio with no license at all. I am, as of yet, indecisive.

Thanks for the video Peter. I didn't know about the marker. Nice feature indeed. I decided to use a wired mouse. So I don't have to worry about batteries. I also decided to change the fan to a more silent version. Adding silicon insulation between the fan and the housing reduced the noise significantly to almost zero. Looking forward to further videos on the FT710.

@hugothales490211 ай бұрын
I have used the Noctua NF-A6x25 FLX fan. The plug of the fan needs to be replaced by a JST 2.54 XH 3. The anti-vibration insulation is an Aerzetix C15157 60x60mm. The anti-vibration insulation can be used for the original Panasonic fan as well. No need to open the transceiver to get it installed.

Thank you for your videos Peter, they are wonderful and informative. I am always looking to learn more about my equipment from those more experienced. I will make one comment in regards to your Sherwood Engineering comment. I believe the FT 710 is actually the 3rd best radio for two reasons. First the Flex Radio is out of production but more importantly, it has been reported by others that Flex did not present Sherwood a standard factory production rig, but actually one they improved prior to Sherwood's testing. This makes the top 3 Yaesu rigs #1, #2 and #3 respectively.

Very helpful for getting new ideas Peter. I recently got this radio and it is my first "modern" electronics one, so your video helped me learn more about how to set it up. One hardware change I made was to replace the grounding screw in the back with a butterfly nut. A metric sized one with a washer behind it worked exactly right. That made adding and removing the ground wire much easier. Now you don't need to use a small screwdriver and be concerned about dropping the tiny screw. I wrote Yaesu about this (twice) but never received an answer. Richard KW0U

Should I decide not to get my amateur radio license, I may sell my recently aquired one. The problem is that I really, really, enjoy just monitoring what is going on the airwaves. I have even installed Ham Radio Deluxe version 5.0 and have been monitoring lots of digital transmissions that sound like tones, pops, hisses, beats, and screeches judt listening in on an analogue mode. However, without a license, the possibility of selling it may arise. There is also a possibility of perhaps getting the entry level license, as well. Unfortunately, the entry level license is a joke when it comes to HF frequency useage. 10 meters is the only voice HF band. CB will yield the exact same propagation and range. Why bother with getting the entry level license for HF use?

Every time I turn the radio on I have to go to the menu item for mouse speed and run it up to 4 or 5, then back down to zero. Otherwise the mouse moves much too fast and is hard to manage. But the larger monitor screen is a lifesaver for my 78-year-old eyes. Now when I look at the screen on the radio I can't IMAGINE having that alone. Plus, now I know what that 'extra' cursor is for.

Just rec’d my new 710AESS, bought on your recommedation, sir. It came yesterday. As did my new, View Sonic 17” monitor. Not realizing there was any kerfluffle over monitors and adaptors, cords, etc But, now today, I am learning of all sorts of dangers and warnings against using a non-DVI-D monitor. One which uses any cable other than DVI-D to DVI-D cable. Warnings of frying the boards, popping fuses, electrical arcing, and worse! Why does Yaesu not tell us this in the literiture, etc. I saw no such warnings before buying a new View Sonic 17” touchscreen monitor. Now, I’m worried to even oen the box, in case I need to attempt an exchange. Problem is that I do not find any DVI-D monitors less than 24” nor less than $500- Seems ludicrous to have a 24+” monitor, costing at least $500- You say you’re using a VGA monitor??

@@watersstanton I do watch your thoughtful videos. And I highly respect your experience and insight. That was a strong influencer in my decision to buy this radio. Faced with a good number of choices among the “Big-3” of amateur radio mfgrs., really, most would have been available to me, but I went with the Yaesu 710aess, for several reasons. I will admit that I’m a sucker for the novelty of a 3D waterfall display. Which some find, honestly, quite annoying. I did experience a bit of exasperation, after buying a touchscreen, VGA, monitor online. I suppose my inexperience with external monitors led me to think a touchscreen monitor was a great choice. But, I don’t recall any advisory in the literature against it. I was glad there were some YT videos warning against touchscreen, and why. Whether this radio will replace my Xiegu G-90 is yet to be decided. Sometimes it’s a blessing and a curse to have choices. 73!
