He was my favorite non Indian batsmen since I began watching in 1996 World Cup at age 10-11. I always wanted him to bat well even if was Indian bowlers on the receiving end. His last series against India, India was on verge of winning a test series in India for the first time but Steve Waugh stood tall and scored an 80 to save his farewell game and series. I was heartbroken but only satisfaction was it was Steve Waugh who did it. Loved Warnie my man also. Still do and miss him like I knew him. Miss his energy of being around, keep everyone cheerful and in commentary box.

Steve Waugh left the sport behind but used his Cricket Profile to help a lot of people, there isn't enough people like this in the world. Thank You Steve, I'm all the better for reading your books as well.

What a balanced person and it reflected on the field. One of the best captains and one of the most underated test batsman who kept getting better with age.

I enjoyed the discussion on player progress today. Players today do indeed have more support but a lot lot more pressure as well. We cotton wool our kids . That's not crickets issue , it's society issue.

in all forms of cricket at a decent competitive level you get 2 types of players, those who hit their hight's only when they feel challenged by someone or something to do with the opposition, and they are gun players, and then their's the others who just from the morning they wake up that day can only think about winning the match, i never played Test Match cricket but i like to feel like Steve Waugh i fell in the latter of the two, what a player he was,

People like Wasim Akram who was tried in a court in Pakistan for match fixing with evidence given by his team mates got let off only because the judge had a soft spot for him. It’s no secret he was corrupt with his brother being a bookie. Only look at Pakistan v Bangladesh in the World Cup 99 which is a blatant example of throwing a game.

@Bernie8330
@Bernie8330 4 жыл бұрын
What are you talking about? Mark Waugh was never involved in matching fixing. The overblown 1994 'scandal' that broke in late 1998 was a storm in a tea cup and Mark Waugh was not guilty of match fixing nor was Shane Warne.

@@winstonwithay1980 I didn't say they didn't take money, I said they weren't involved in match fixing, and they WEREN'T. They provided certain info that would have helped bookies frame their odds but this was nothing to do with fixing a result. None the less, it was smart and prudent for cricket boards around the world to decide that this was also a big no-no FOR THE FUTURE.

Salim Malik offered Warne $200,000 to make sure Pakistan won the last test match against Australia in Lahore I think it was in the 1994 test series. Also to Tim May. By the 2 of them bowling badly. Warne declined, along with May, and they told Mark Taylor who reported it. Then Warne and Mark Waugh gave out pitch information etc quite innocently not long afterwards which was resolved.

I'm glad he didn't take too many lessons from Teresa when he met her, and instead looked to actually helping people. Anyone who actually looks into what Teresa did will soon realize (perhaps shockingly) that she did nothing to help the people under her care. They suffered agonizingly. I'm really glad Waugh has actually helped people.

Mark Waugh is an Aussie, he wears a baggie cap, And when he saw the bookie's cheque he said "I'm having that", He shared it out with Warnie, then went and had some beers, And when the ACC found out they covered up for years.

@@mhabib4653 Steve was lucky in that he came in when Australia were a weak team post retirements & defections, he never would have got any kind of run in the test team based on his performances in the 1980's in any other era, but from 1992/1993 onward there was nothing but hard work & consistent high scores from him. My fondest memory is him coming back when he shouldn't have been playing for the final Ashes test in 2001, with the series already in the bag & limped to a century & a victory to make it 4-1.

The reason why Indian Cricket is the best - we never had match-fixers! we always want to win. Our captains are the best. Look at Dhoni and Kholi, word doesn't exist in our cricket. The reason why we win.
