I love that he says it was an achievement possible because of his wife who convinced him to stay, his Physio who he credited for getting him fit to bat and all those who supported him… great demonstration of leadership and success! It takes a real leader to know great things happen when there is a great team and a group of people around them that supports them to succeed. 1:45 - so is it Mrs. Waugh we should thank for Steve being such a tough old buggar?? I bet he thought 'aww.. if i dont play now then ive got months of rehab, listening to the Missus banging on about not doing what she said.' Personally I think playing with 2 arms and 2 broken legs would he easier than putting up with my Missus sometimes and we aint even married. Waugh is such a legend and tougher than most England sides he played against put together and thats coming from a pom. It used to make me wanna puke how soft those 90's England teams were!

@@sugarnadsyep, he was a better captain than those 3. Steve Waugh’s team would have wiped the floor with Bradman and Benaud’s teams. Taylor’s team maybe not, given the nucleus of Waugh’s side played under Taylor. Waugh’s team had a better win rate than Taylor’s.
@sugarnads5 ай бұрын
He was not even close to those 3 as captain. He had the best team by a mile when tubby retired. I could have captained that side. And lol...id like to see how his top order would have coped with no helmets, uncovered pitches, back foot no balls, no bouncer limits. They were playing england who were a joke. A windies side who had one decent batsman an a couple of good quicks, utterly gutless pakistani teams who cheated, indians who hadnt figured out crying about the mean aussies wasnt gonna win test matches, and south africans WHO THREW MATCHES. Bradmans top order would have been laughing with delight if they played in todays softcock conditions.
@byza1015 ай бұрын
@@sugarnads Bradman’s team couldn’t handle Bodyline, what good would they have been against the West Indies? Benaud never faced the West Indies of the 70’s and 80’s. Unfortunately by the time Waugh assumed the role the West Indies were on the downward spiral, but the bowlers Waugh had at his didposal would have given them a good crack at any team from history.

Steve Waugh and Javed Miandad of Pakistan were two players who had the guts to fight for their country and go through the pain barrier and still perform brilliantly whilst obviously injured to grind the opposition to the dirt....Miandad performed miraculous innings after miraculous innings during the 92 World cup and was one of the major reasons Pakistan won that 92 World cup in Australia. He and Steve Waugh had the same mentality. Both leaders and legends.

Kenny, that is actually no joke, he is unbelievable. I thought that I'd leave him out since he is still playing, but he is proving that he can be part of the best 11 of history already and he's still getting better, I think each game of the ashes he improved his average.
He’d finished up with his Gunn & Moore (GM) sponsorship and was negotiating with other potential sponsors during this time. MRF (Madras Rubber Factory) won the bidding war after this and had Tendulkar, Waugh and (I think) Lara in their stable at that point...
